🦃 Turkey was my assistant today during preschool OT screenings!

We looked at things like pencil grasp, cutting, and early handwriting — all the skills that help little ones get ready to learn.

I love partnering with preschools to support early development. If your program is interested in collaborating for OT screenings or parent education, I’d love to connect!

On the road again with some OT favorites today! 🚗🖍️🏈

🖍️ Spotted these thick markers in the school section at Publix! I love using them with kids who are learning pre-writing and early letter formation. The thicker grip helps little hands control their movements — and they always think they’re more fun than the thin ones!

🏈 My Thanksgiving football buddy joined me for sessions today — keeping things festive on the road!

✏️ We practiced “line across,” “line down,” and circles this morning, and my football friend was right there to cheer us on. Thick markers + big paper = great pre-writing practice for building control, strength, and confidence.

💡 Parent tip: If your child struggles with early writing, try thicker markers or crayons. They make practice easier — and more fun!

🦃 Turkey Breathing for Parents | Mindful Monday

Happy Mindful Monday! 🦃 Take a few minutes for yourself with this Turkey Breathing exercise, designed to help parents pause, de-stress, and reset during a busy day.

In this quick, playful video, I show simple breathing techniques and mindful movements you can do at home — with or without your little ones nearby. A little bit of calm goes a long way for your mind, body, and energy!

✨ Tip: Try this before school drop-off, after work, or anytime you need a moment to center yourself.

💛 Remember: Taking care of yourself helps you take better care of your kids!

👏 Try the Copy the Beat Game!
Clap a short rhythm and have your child repeat it — start simple, then add a challenge!
This fun rhythm game builds attention, listening, and self-control… all through play. 💛

Mindful Monday
Let go of one “should” today.
“I should have done more.”
“I should be calmer.”
Replace it with: “I’m doing my best, and that’s enough.” 💛
Mindfulness starts with self-compassion — one gentle thought at a time.

Starting the week with a mindful moment. At Learning Steps Therapy, we love reminding families (and ourselves!) that the energy we bring matters-whether to a meeting, home or school pickup.

A calm breath and an intentional mindset can make all the difference.

These dinosaur-themed activities aren’t just fun—they help kids build strength, coordination, and body awareness through proprioception and heavy work:
What’s heavy work & proprioception?
Heavy work = pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, or rolling (like our dino moves!)
It helps kids know where their bodies are in space (proprioception), which supports focus, self-regulation, and motor control.
Dino Moves:
🦕 Jump or Fly: Jump on pillows or forward with both feet (adds impact & feedback to muscles)
🦖 Hide: Roll up in a blanket or crawl under pillows (resists movement = heavy work!)
🦕 Walk: Stomp or crawl across the room (muscle engagement + coordination)
🦖 Push or Pull: Tug of war or push a chair/laundry basket (classic heavy work!)
⚠️ Adult supervision required!
💡 Parent Tip: Gross motor play = learning + fun + body awareness!
❓ Question: Which dino move would your child love most?

🍁 Mindful Monday 🍁
Fall is full of cozy, grounding smells that can also be a tool for mindfulness. This week, try slowing down and noticing the scents around you. Here are a few ideas to bring calm into your day:
✨ Take 3 deep breaths with a cinnamon stick or fall candle.
✨ Pause before eating an apple or pumpkin treat—notice the sweet, spicy aroma.
✨ Step outside and breathe in the earthy scent of fallen leaves.
✨ Open the oven halfway through baking and savor the warm, comforting smell.
✨ If you pass a firepit or fireplace, pause for a mindful breath of woodsmoke.
Our sense of smell is powerful—it can ground us in the present moment and even shift our mood. 🍂
👉 Which fall smell instantly makes you feel calm?

✨ Education Tuesday ✨
Did you know balance challenges can sometimes be linked to reflexes that haven’t fully integrated?
I recently worked with a child who showed huge improvements in balance once we combined reflex integration activities with fun balance exercises in OT. 💪🧠
When the nervous system feels organized, kids can focus, move, and grow with more confidence! 💫
➡️ Curious if reflex integration could help your child? Let’s connect!
