Not all stress looks obvious.

During a Fire-dominant year, emotional energy builds and sometimes it shows up in subtle ways:
• Difficulty settling
• Increased sensitivity to environment
• Clinginess or neediness
• Tension in the face, jaw, or body
• Restlessness, even at rest

This isn’t “bad behavior.” It’s often a sign the Shen is unsettled. Horses may show it through their eyes and responsiveness. Dogs and cats may show it through pacing, vocalizing, or changes in routine behavior.

When we support emotional balance, everything else becomes easier: movement, training, connection.

Inside our Foundations courses, you’ll learn simple ways to support emotional balance using acupressure and energetic awareness. https://www.polltopastern.com/online-courses

There are many ways red light (or laser) therapy can be used and each has its place.

Some approaches focus on a specific area of concern, which can be helpful in certain situations. In our sessions, we take a whole-body approach:
• How the body may be compensating
• Meridian pathways and energetic patterns
• Focusing on both sides of the body
• Areas that may be contributing to the issue

Because often, what we see on the surface is only part of the picture. Red light therapy is just one piece of the session: it’s combined with assessment, acupressure, and real-time adjustments based on the animal’s response.

If you’re looking for a comprehensive, individualized, fear free session, we do in-home and barn visits.

Have you ever felt like your animal was trying to tell you something… without making a sound?

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, this is the Shen or the spirit, awareness, and emotional presence that lives within the Heart.

And one of the clearest ways we see Shen? Through the eyes.
• Soft, relaxed eyes → calm, settled Shen
• Bright, wide, intense eyes → heightened emotion or stimulation
• Dull or disconnected eyes → depleted or withdrawn Shen

Horses show this beautifully, but dogs and cats express it too, through their gaze, facial tension, and overall presence. When we start observing the Shen, we stop guessing… and start understanding.

Learn how to recognize and support Shen through the Five Elements inside our online courses for horses, dogs, and cats.

Red light therapy is a tool, but the results come from how it’s used.

In each session, I’m not just applying light, I’m:
• Assessing the body and meridians
• Choosing specific areas and points intentionally
• Integrating acupressure via photopuncture
• Adjusting in real time based on the animal’s response

This is why two sessions never look exactly the same. The goal isn’t to “do more.” It’s to do what the body needs. That’s where the difference is.

If you’re looking for a more individualized approach to your horse, dog, or cat’s wellness, we are booking in home/barn sessions. https://www.polltopastern.com/book-online

Behavior is often a sign of imbalance.

A horse that feels reactive.
A dog that can’t settle.
A cat that withdraws or becomes more sensitive.

These aren’t just “behavioral”, these can reflect internal imbalance. When we start to look at the body as a system, these signs become useful information.

Acupressure offers a way to support both the physical body and the nervous system in a calm, fear free approach. Want to learn acupressure you can use on your own animals? Check out our online courses: https://www.polltopastern.com/online-courses

Most people think acupuncture and acupressure are completely different.

They’re not.

They follow the same meridian system, the same point locations, and they are used for the same purpose. The only difference is how the point is stimulated:
• Acupuncture uses needles.
• Acupressure uses touch.
• Photopuncture uses light.
• Electropuncture uses electricity.
• Aquapuncture uses saline.

Different tools, but same system.

You’ve probably already used acupressure without thinking about it:
• Rubbing your temples when you have a headache.
• Massaging between the eyes when you’re stressed.
• Using motion sickness bands on your wrists during travel.

These are all examples of stimulating points on the body to create a response. That’s the foundation of this work. What matters most isn’t the tool, it’s understanding:
• Where the points are
• When to use them
• How to read the response

We offer in-person sessions, as well as online courses designed to help you confidently and safely apply acupressure with your own animals. Learn more about our courses here: https://www.polltopastern.com/online-courses

One of the most important parts of my work has nothing to do with techniques or tools. It’s how the animal feels during the session.

I am Fear Free Certified, which means my approach prioritizes:
• Emotional safety
• Reducing stress and anxiety
• Allowing the animal to feel in control
• Reading body language and respecting boundaries

This is especially important when working with horses, dogs, and cats who may already be dealing with discomfort, sensitivity, or overwhelm easily. A session should never feel forced.

When an animal feels safe:
• The nervous system can settle
• The body becomes more receptive
• True release and balance can happen

This is why I take my time, observe, and adjust each session based on the individual animal in front of me. Because how they experience the session matters just as much as what we do.

If you’re looking for a calm, respectful, and individualized approach to your animal’s wellness, we offer sessions in the Greater Charlotte area.

Did you know that Red Light Therapy and PEMF are actually made of the same type of energy? 🤯

Both therapies live on the electromagnetic spectrum, but at completely opposite ends of it. And that difference in frequency is exactly what determines how each one interacts with your horse's body, how deep it reaches, and what it tells the cells to do.

Red light works through photons, tiny packets of energy absorbed directly by your horse's cells to fuel repair and recovery. PEMF works through pulsing magnetic fields that pass through tissue and induce tiny electrical currents that reset cellular communication at a deeper level.

Same energy family. Completely different conversations with your horse's body.

Our new blog will break all of this down in plain language — including why not all PEMF devices are created equal, and how understanding the science helps you make smarter decisions for your horse's care.

Check it out here: https://wix.to/3CY4omz

Did you know red light therapy and PEMF are actually made of the same type of energy? Discover how these two powerful therapies work on the electromagnetic spectrum, why photons make all the difference, and how understanding the science helps you make smarter healing decisions for your horse.

🐴 Did you know horses naturally groom each other right at this spot?

GV 14 is located near the withers and is one of my favorite points to work on horses. It supports relief for shoulder, neck and back tension and is also a powerful calming point. No wonder horses seek out this exact location when they groom each other! Nature always knows. 🧡

Acupressure works with the body's natural energy to support comfort, relaxation and overall wellness. Watch for the release a lick, yawn, chew or deep breath tells you the point has been activated!

Want to learn how to do this for your own horse? Check out our online courses or book a session at polltopastern.com!

🐴 Show season is here, is your horse ready?

If you've ever pulled into a showground and felt your beautifully trained horse completely disappear on you, this one's for you.

Show anxiety is one of the most common challenges performance horse owners face, and the frustrating truth is that most of the things we instinctively reach for, more drilling, more lunging, more pressure, can actually make it worse.

In our latest blog we're diving deep into why horses get anxious at competitions, what's actually happening in their nervous system, and how acupressure can help shift them out of that threat response and back to you, on the ground or right from the saddle.

We're covering the specific calming points every rider should know, how to use them, and how consistent bodywork builds the kind of genuine confidence that shows up when it matters most.
