Even though I don't have little kids living with me anymore, I do love giving out candy on Halloween night. Not pretzels. Not fruit. CANDY. (One year, I gave out little toys and “healthier” treats and my son told me I gave out boring stuff, and he was right!) As a dietitian, I promote having a healthy relationship with food and that means enjoying treats every now and then, like on Halloween!

I love that there are parents in my neighborhood who still bring their kiddos all dressed up to walk around the neighborhood to trick-or-treat. I have so many fun memories of doing this as a kid! My cousins and my siblings and I would walk our entire neighborhood going door to door. We'd pass by groups of kids dressed up in different costumes. Years later, doing this with my own kids was like reliving the fun all over again!

I’ve strung-up the lights so that on the evening of Halloween, the neighborhood kids know I've got candies for them!🎃👻🍬

Last week I attended , the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics annual conference, and the world’s largest meeting for nutrition and dietetics experts. This event brings together thousands of nutrition professionals, including Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDN), researchers, and policymakers, for educational sessions, workshops, sponsored events, and an expo featuring companies, commodities and institutions in the food and nutrition space. FNCE is where I not only get to reunite with my friends and colleagues, I earn continuing education credits to maintain my RDN credential. Science is constantly evolving and it’s our job, as nutrition communicators and educators, to stay on-top of not only the trends, but the facts. Thank you to the commodity boards promoting whole, nutritious foods, the farmers who bring it to our tables, and thank you to the scientists and speakers who deliver the latest facts. At a time when it feels difficult to feel uplifted and inspired, FNCE delivered once again!

In today’s world where science facts can get muddied by people with certain agendas and ill-intentions, I am personally committed to sharing evidence based information with my social media followers and my patients. You can count on that.

It was time for new headshots, and my buddy, Jackie Tran came through for me in a big way with these beautiful photos! I added one in the carousel that I took with my phone (the last photo), but the rest are shot and edited by him. It has been seven or eight years since I last had proper headshots taken.

Headshots are important to have when you have your own business. You’re asked for one when you are speaking, presenting, when you’re invited as a guest to a professional event, when you’re doing any media work, and when you’re pitching ideas to businesses for freelance work. Even though when I look at my old headshot I think, “Meh, I haven’t changed. I look the same.” In my heart, I know I’m fooling myself because EVERYONE’s face changes over the years. As we age, we do look different and sometimes admitting that is difficult! We may not feel it or see it ourselves, but it’s a fact. So, as I learn to embrace changes in my life, and changes on my face, here’s to honoring that with a little stack of new photos that I’ll likely be using for the next several years!

Grateful for my pretty little kitchen, a talented makeup artist (Haus of Za ), as well as good digital cameras, good lighting, and good friends who know how to use these essential elements when it comes to great photography. 📷
