Drew's Faithful Feet Drew Ryan Schaaf passed away in the early morning hours on July 11th 2010, just 2 1/2 weeks after he was born. During the night, Drew shifted and suffocated.

Drew’s father Dan, was trying to soothe him to sleep when they both fell asleep together on the family’s couch. Although his time on this earth was brief, the positive impact he has had on the lives of so many is profound. Drew’s Faithful Feet 5K has created a partnership with Mamie’s Poppy Plates, Trinity Unity Point, and Hammond Henry Hospital, to provide tangible momentos to families who suffer stillbirth or infant death.

Friends, can you look at these numbers for a second? Would you believe me if I told you that my family sat around our kitchen table toward the end of July discussing if we were going to actually have DFF this year? We hadn’t done one thing to prepare. Not one phone call, no marketing, nada.

We questioned whether or not it was time to close this chapter. We are passionate about our cause and helping others, but we still questioned. Truthfully, putting on this event takes a lot of head space and grit. It’s emotional.

However, it also brings so much JOY to our family, our community, and the community of parents who have lost their sweet babes.

Thank you for your support. Thank you for believing in us. We feel loved.

🦋 470 🦋

Friends, we are getting sooo close to our goal of 500! A couple of things to be on the look out for over the next couple of days:

1. Look for the launch of episode 9 of Denise Hnytka's On A Mother Level podcast. Denise and I talked about Drew and Owen, navigating the loss of an infant, and Drew's Faithful Feet 5K. The episode launches on Thursday!

2. All race participants, check your inbox between Thurs. and Fri. for information regarding the race timeline, parking, etc. I will also post the info on this page for anyone who's email may disappear in cyber space.

The weather is going to be ABSOLUTELY breathtaking on Saturday morning. We can't wait to celebrate with all of you!

🌈Team Addison🌈

On December 16th, 2015, Addison Faith Bros was born at 35 weeks weighing 3lb 15 oz. From the beginning of my pregnancy there was numerous complications. It was at my 22 week ultrasound that I found out she only had a 2 vessel umbilical cord, a thick right ventricle of the heart, incomplete formation of the spine, extra digits on both hands, and her brain was not forming correctly. Due to having low amounts of amniotic fluid, an amniocentesis wouldn't be performed by my doctor, but he was pretty certain there was a chromosomal abnormality. Three days after she was born, it was confirmed that she had full Trisomy 13, or Patau syndrome, and was ultimately determined to be incompatible with life. I spent the next 18 days by her bed in the NICU praying for a miracle, but knowing each moment could be her last. While she was also found to be blind and deaf, she was showered with love by family and staff at the hospital. On the morning of January 3rd, 2016, I sat in her NICU room holding her while she took her last breath in my arms. While she is missed everyday, I truly believe she was sent with a purpose from heaven and changed more people's lives in her short time here on Earth then some do in their whole lifetime.

🌈Team Rorie🌈

In August of 2018, we found out that we were expecting our first child, a baby girl. I had a perfectly normal, healthy pregnancy with no complications. Most of our appointments were short and sweet. It almost seemed too easy, but our doctor assured us that was a good thing. We were as ready as two new parents could be for the arrival of our little girl. At 38 ½ weeks, we went in for our weekly routine check-up, and when the doctor was struggling to find her heartbeat with a fetal doppler, I began to worry. It usually didn’t take any time at all to find it. The doctor said that she thought there was something wrong with the doppler which calmed me a little. Derek must have seen the tears in my eyes and look of panic on my face, because when the doctor left to find a different doppler, he jumped up, grabbed my hand, and told me that everything was going to be okay. When the doctor returned, she tried to find the heartbeat again with no luck. She said that sometimes the baby can be turned a certain way that makes it hard to find the heartbeat, so she sent us to get a sonogram. The sonogram confirmed our worst fears, our baby girl no longer had a heartbeat.⁣

Rorie Mae Hendrick was born into the hands of Jesus the next morning on April 12, 2019. She was 6 pounds 10.3 ounces, 19 inches long, and perfect in every way. We are thankful for the precious time we had to spend with Rorie, surrounded by loving family and friends. After an autopsy and many tests, we are still left with no answers as to how this happened. All we know is that it was God’s plan to have Rorie with him in Heaven, and we couldn’t think of a better caretaker. We are blessed to have the hope of Heaven, and we look forward to being reunited with our daughter someday and being able to ask all the questions of God himself.⁣

A couple of weeks after we lost Rorie, we received a Mamie’s Poppy Plate that was donated to us by Drew’s Faithful Feet. After looking up Drew’s Faithful Feet, we were surprised to find out that our plate came from so close by (we live in Kewanee). Our Poppy Plate, with Rorie’s little footprints, is something that we will cherish forever. We are thankful to the Schaaf Family for letting us share our story, and we are touched by what they are doing for us and families much like our own through Drew’s Faithful Feet!⁣
