Our theme this week continues with a focus on family issues. Specifically, I am prompted to think about the developmental changes families go through. A couple who have their first child and become a family. Stressors and demands placed on parents and school-age children. Transitions of going away to school, a divorce, a loss. When I think about my efforts in 2024 that focused on our core values, I remember meeting a young dad who was wrapping all the items that go into watching a little league ball game of his son, who was no more than 6 years old. The morning was glorious, and pleasantries were easily exchanged. The young dad watched his son and said, " I just wish I could pause these years". Such a heartfelt sentiment, yet not possible because the wheel of time moves on. I think about the families that Ken and I have seen over the years. Parents who work so hard to learn to stabilize their child. The work in relearning/modifying ingrained beliefs may or may not help in this complex world. And then I think about the sadness, the tragic reality of when there are issues that are not addressed, feelings and attitudes are hardened to the point of dust, crushed by time and missed opportunities.
