The FDA has eliminated boxed warnings for cardiovascular disease, thromboembolism, breast cancer, and probable dementia from systemic vaginal estrogen therapies. The warnings were based on outdated data, particularly from the women’s health initiative, which studied older post, menopausal women and did not account for differences in age, timing, a therapy, or types of estrogen and progestins.
This is a huge advancement for women’s health and it is super important. That hormone replacement therapy is evaluated for all patients exhibiting symptoms of perimenopause or menopause.
