Carson's Heart Journey

Carson's Heart Journey Carson's journey to have his heart mended

01/14/2020

We have been home for a little over 3 weeks! We went to see our home cardiologist on Friday who said everything looks great. We also met his EP who will be the person to help with all our pacemaker needs. He said they use math and electricity to test the wires, how well they are working, as well as the leads, and of course the generator (or battery). We have a device that will do the same test and send Carson's EP the information. We are learning lots.

Carson is healing, he is very aware and cautious but is running around more and more. He still has some precautions until his sternum heals completely at 8 weeks post op, he will be 5 weeks post OP tomorrow. All is well

Being home for Christmas was the best gift. The biggest surprise was Carson's fever. We went to CHLA emergency department to air on the side of caution. He had developed a cough, but was showing no signs of heart issues. He had a chest xray that showed no fluid in the lungs and his lungs sound clear. His heart shows no sign of infection so they diagnosed him with a viral infection. Now we're taking it extra easy.

We're home! I cannot thank everyone enough for all the love and support through all this. Im so grateful.

We got the all clear to go home!!! Best. Christmas. Gift. Ever.

Were headed to the aquarium today if we dont freeze 😂 its 14 degrees here. Carson woke up happy and not in pain. It's so nice having Alison here with us. Tomorrow is our appointment and Saturday we come home!!!

Carsons check xray shows a significant pocket of fluid. They're doubling his diuretic and starting a beta blocker because his heart is still beating harder than they like. We follow up on Friday morning and were told we can go home this weekend

Were at Boston Children's Hospital. Carson has already has his xray, and ekg. We are waiting for his echo (ultrasound of his heart), and then to meet with his cardiologist who should tell us when we get to go home!!

Carson has been discharged!!! Just 4 days post OP. This is a new record. Thank you all for your love and support through all of this. Carson is needy but doing well. I couldn't be more proud! We will follow up with cardiology here this week and hopefully be home on or around this weekend.

EP is a new team we get to get to know. They take care of Carsons new pacemaker. They just checked it and said he is still in full heart block but the pacemaker is doing its job. He ate some chicken noodle soup, is drinking water and had a couple bowel movements. They're talking about possible discharge today, maybe tomorrow.

Carson is realizing what he went through, as much as he can understand anyway and he isn't happy about it. Hes struggling with taking medication orally because of taste and nerves. He has passed gas but has not pooped. Hes walking super well, got the iv out of his right hand and is well on his way to recovery.

We have moved to the step down unit. Carsons drainage tubes were removed. He has to work on eating and drinking, walking, and getting his digestion going. I am beyond proud. Thank you all for the continued support

This super hero is doing big things. His breathing tube was removed, his two art lines are gone, the iv in his neck has been taken out and he's drinking water and apple juice. The goals are to get him out of bed and walking, see how much his chest tubes are draining and possibly be moved to the step down unit.
