Tomorrow, on Giving Tuesday, we invite you to join us in providing a ride to a cancer patient who needs assistance getting to their daily radiation treatments in Uvalde.

A gift of any size supports the operation of two vans that travel a vast nine-county region to pick up patients who have no other means to reach their appointments.

Together, we can make sure a patient has one less stress to deal with, so they can concentrate on healing rather than how they will get to their life-saving care.

The best testimony of the Foundation's impact is from a current cancer patient, Constancia, is riding the van from Eagle Pass to Uvalde for her 30 radiation treatments. "Since my surgery for breast cancer, I have not been able to walk without assistance, and my energy level has been low," said Constancia. "When I learned I needed to have radiation therapy, I decided that I would not take the treatments because I had no way to come to Uvalde. It was heaven-sent when the doctor's office told me a van was available and I would not have to miss my treatments. I am thankful to those who gave for the van service because it has helped me, and the drivers are so nice and professional. If it were not for this help, I don't know what would have happened to me, and I greatly appreciate the help."

Each donation to Kate Marmion Rides to Radiation ensures that cancer patients in our region do not have to worry about how they will get to their daily life-saving treatments and allows them to concentrate on getting better.

Yaneth is from Eagle Pass and received 28 radiation treatments to treat her cancer. “I was diagnosed in May and had 12 weeks of chemotherapy before beginning radiation therapy in Uvalde. The van service has helped me so much. The van driver was really nice and polite; he opened the door for us. I want to thank the donors because, without the service, it would be too hard and draining for me because I don’t always feel well, and some elderly patients do not feel safe driving themselves. It is nice not to worry about how I will get to my treatments.”

Jovita and her husband, Agustin, have been married for 42 years and live in Brackettville. Jovita’s breast cancer is being treated with 30 radiation treatments in Uvalde. “Being able to use the van service has been such a help for us because it is 70 miles each way to Uvalde; we would not be able to make the trips on our own. We are thankful for the help and the van drivers are friendly and courteous.”

Ricardo is a retiree from Eagle Pass who received 44 radiation treatments and used Kate Marmion Rides to Radiation to reach his appointments in Uvalde. “The van service is great and on a scale of one to ten, I give it a ten! Economically, it has helped me because I do not spend money on gas every day to get to my treatments. I would like to tell donors that this is a good service to support because it really helps people without the financial means or a safe way to get back and forth to their cancer treatments in Uvalde. I would like to tell those that give to this service, thank you.”

The best testimony for Kate Marmion Rides to Radiation’s essential and unduplicated service is from a current patient using the service for her radiation treatments. Sofia lives in Del Rio and her daughter lives in California and has been with her mother to help with recovery and finding treatment options. "I had surgery in September in San Antonio and needed to have radiation therapy, but it was impossible for me to have my treatments in San Antonio. My daughter researched to find treatment closer to Del Rio, and when she found out I could come to Uvalde for treatment, it was helpful. She then found out about the van service, and it was such a relief because I do not drive. My daughter rode with me in the van for my first two treatments, and now she has the peace of mind to return home and to her job because she knows that I am in good hands. I want to tell all those who give for this van service how thankful I am for them, and may God continue to bless this service."

Manual is from Pearsall and is receiving 42 radiation treatments for skin cancer. "Having a ride provided for me is a blessing and has saved me from having to drive myself 100 miles a day, especially when I do not have the energy to drive myself. It is so important that this organization does what it does because so many cancer patients do not have the means to get to their doctor for their treatments. Thank you to everyone that supports this van service."
