TRAFFIC TUESDAY | As temperatures drop, here’s an important reminder for parents and caregivers: bulky coats or snowsuits should never be worn under a car seat harness.
Thick clothing can compress in a crash, leaving extra space between your child and the straps. That looseness means the harness can’t properly protect them.
To keep your little ones both safe and warm, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends:
❄️ Keeping the car seat indoors when it’s not in use. This helps your child stay warm once you head out.
❄️ Dressing kids in thin, snug layers to help with insulation and proper strap fit.
❄️ Adding hats, mittens, and warm socks for extra warmth that won’t interfere with safety straps.
❄️ Checking strap tightness by doing the pinch test. If you can pinch any slack, it needs to be tighter.
❄️ Placing a blanket or coat over the harness once your child is buckled in.
Let’s make sure our kids stay safe, secure, and cozy all winter long! 🚗🧤❄️
