I spent the weekend at an immersive Whole Horse Dissection class hosted by Northwest School of Animal Massage and Trinity Equine Services.
I went in wanting to deepen my knowledge of anatomy, and the muscles I’m influencing under my hands. Honestly I got so much more out of it, I’m still processing a lot of it.
One of my biggest take aways was just the lengths the horse’s body will go to to create stability where there is none. Compensation is real, and it ripples throughout the entire body.
And Fascia….Fascia Fascia Fascia…. You cannot appreciate it fully until you see the layers upon layers of fascia that surround and permeates the muscles… especially when you see a front leg removed.(🤯)
I felt first hand how an uneducated hand completely shuts down the hind end. You know that it does but you appreciate it a lot more when you’re holding that hind leg in your hands as some mild downward pressure is applied to the bit and you feel that leg instantly come to a full stop.
So many AHA! moments, so many inspiring people, not only teachers, but other students. We had bodyworkers of differing backgrounds, Chiropractors, farriers, saddle fitters and trainers all coming together to learn more about our equine partners. The information exchange was amazing.
Thank to everyone involved for creating such an amazing learning atmosphere… Now I want to take so many courses!😅❤️
