Rengo is a hard working endurance horse who just finished his first 55 mile ride! He also won an award for fitness. ❤️ Rengo can be a bit of a skeptic when it comes to bodywork but I love that he always comes around in the end and truly relaxes. I’ve been having a great time chatting with his owner about Endurance Riding, I think it’s super interesting and love the conditioning aspect of it. I have an Eventing background so conditioning isn’t a new concept but it’s so cool learning about a new sport and I love that the Endurance Scene seems to be very Horse First. I love being a part of Rengo’s care team.❤️

It’s Fall ya’ll! Please let me know when your horse is getting fall shots or any kind of joint injection, as we may have to reschedule your appointment.
I can’t work on your horse for one week post shots/injections. Thanks!

It’s that time of year again! Please let me know when your horse is getting fall shots and joint injections! I cannot work on your horse for 7 days after they receive these, so let me know if we need to reschedule. Happy riding!❤️

Great little post by Freely Forward Bodywork. I’m not a saddle fitter but I work on many horses who are sore due to their saddle fit. The problem with a sore back is that over time your horse will start compensating elsewhere in the body. This is when we start seeing sore hocks, stiff necks, and if compensation patten continues you can also have supensory issues. The whole body Is connected through the fascial system, so compensation in one area of the body will inevitability cause restriction in another.
It’s not only the Trapezius & Longissimus we need to be concerned with on saddle fit but also Illiocostalis.(yellow muscle in the video.) As saddle channels and pannels are getting wider which is great to some extent over the super narrow channels/pannels from years passed, just know that channel & pannels can get too wide for your horses muscular structure as well. This can cause mobility problems through the rib cage. Work with a qualified fitter to find what’s best for your horse.
Part of my job as a bodyworker Is to break the pain cycle cause by some of these compensation patterns, but I also want my clients to be educated about their horse’s bodies. When we know better we can do better. No shame just knowledge.❤️

The ponies of got to test drive my new red light poll cap today…This may help relieve poll and upper neck tension as well as TMJ discomfort. Fafiner Nova & Breezy(not pictured) definitely found their zen while wearing it. Miss Rhodie wasn’t a fan but just goes to show that not every modality is for every horse. ❤️

Tape is a decompression modality that creates space for fascial and muscle. It helps extend the life of the massage, and the kids love the “racing stripes.”😅

I spent the weekend at an immersive Whole Horse Dissection class hosted by Northwest School of Animal Massage and Trinity Equine Services.
I went in wanting to deepen my knowledge of anatomy, and the muscles I’m influencing under my hands. Honestly I got so much more out of it, I’m still processing a lot of it.
One of my biggest take aways was just the lengths the horse’s body will go to to create stability where there is none. Compensation is real, and it ripples throughout the entire body.
And Fascia….Fascia Fascia Fascia…. You cannot appreciate it fully until you see the layers upon layers of fascia that surround and permeates the muscles… especially when you see a front leg removed.(🤯)
I felt first hand how an uneducated hand completely shuts down the hind end. You know that it does but you appreciate it a lot more when you’re holding that hind leg in your hands as some mild downward pressure is applied to the bit and you feel that leg instantly come to a full stop.
So many AHA! moments, so many inspiring people, not only teachers, but other students. We had bodyworkers of differing backgrounds, Chiropractors, farriers, saddle fitters and trainers all coming together to learn more about our equine partners. The information exchange was amazing.
Thank to everyone involved for creating such an amazing learning atmosphere… Now I want to take so many courses!😅❤️
