After many years as a nurse I’ve finally found my new purpose! ❤️❤️❤️
What a wonderful family!

Rick is the best. My 101 year old Dad was living independently and had a fall and spent a week in the hospital and then 2 weeks in rehab. We started looking for an assisted living facility for him and the first place we looked at I cried and told my wife I cannot put my Dad there. We spoke with the Rehab facility and they gave us Rick’s information and said he helps you find the right assisted living facility.
I reached out to Rick around dinner time on a Saturday and to my surprise he got right back to me. We had a call immediately to discuss my father’s situation. Having never dealt with this before Rick quickly put me at ease and agreed the place we looked at was probably not the right fit for him. He did some research and got back to me with a few names of places to check out. He set up appointments at two places that were very nice. I would have been comfortable putting my Dad at either place. They were about 20 minutes away from us and I asked him to see if there was anything closer to us. I did tell him originally that care was most important not distance but when I thought it thru distance did matter. He found another place that was 1.7 miles away from us and had openings. They have the highest level of care and is a very nice facility. Rick set up a tour and it was the perfect fit. We signed the paperwork that day. I moved my Dad in there yesterday and he is very comfortable there. I had lunch with him yesterday and the residents and employees were all very nice. I spoke with multiple residents who have been there for years and they all said they like the place. That was very reassuring for me.
I am so thankful that we connected with Rick. He is extremely knowledgeable and was very attentive to our needs and finding the right place for my Dad. He took care of the whole process, answered all of our questions and was always available. I don’t know what I would have done without him. This is a very difficult stressful situation for our family and Rick just made the whole process easy for us. I would highly, highly recommend using Rick if you need help finding an assisted living facility.

I remember as a brand new nurse having to start in skilled nursing the medical floors (because that’s the natural path) now keep in mind I entered this profession as a licensed EMT III a critical care technician so I had some medical knowledge but I distincly remember saying to myself, what did you do??? I had 20 plus patients that I had to provide medications and treatments for!!
When I would enter a patients room a natural conversation would start and I would become enthralled with it, I absolutely loved the conversations, the old stories the lessons learned, the advice ❤️
Then, pout of the blue, pure panic would set in, because it would suddenly dawn on me that had so much more work to do that I would have to break away mid conversation sometimes, and hated it! I felt for a time, this new career was a mistake, although the service I was providing was obviously very important, I felt like I was cheating my people, (and selfishly myself) having to abruptly leave them in order to get “my work done” I always felt the the “treatment of time” with my people was just as important as the “medical” treatment I was providing!
I made my feelings known almost daily to those around me and maybe a bit much, let’s just say everyone knew how I felt, well, apparently even the director of the community I was working in knew!
One day she approached me and stated that it was no secret how I was feeling and asked me if I would consider a position as the supervisor of the assisted living/memory care which was miraculous because I had only worked the medical floor for about 4 months!
Instantly my heart filled with excitement because I knew that this opportunity would change my entire outlook on my new profession, it would afford me the opportunity to actually spend time with our residents!!!
I gleefully accepted this position which sent me on a path of over 15 years as a nursing director in Assisted living and
Memory care and thousands of meaningful learned conversations with our (TEACHERS)!!
I would spend hours upon hours visiting and conversing with folks who’s stories, history and advice benefitted me, my choices, and life, leaps and bounds more than the “time” I would sit and listen!!!
Time and conversation is a two way street and they deserve to have as much as we can provide, and trust me it may benefit YOU much more than you think!! I love our seniors!! they are full of advice and life’s lessons actually learned (first person) and I think if folks took Gary’s advice, and volunteered to “help” by simply visiting them, In most cases the “volunteer” would be the real winner!

🐾❤️ We had a very special visitor stop by today! Casanova the dog brought us some much-needed pet therapy, smiles, and tail wags. Nothing lifts spirits quite like furry hugs and happy paws. We loved every minute of it! 🐶✨

My friends, what a fantastic option for your loved one! When you are the caregiver your life doesn’t wait, you still have Dr’s appointments, shopping, visiting with friends, it’s life! Well these awesome folks at Activage provide daily care for folks with cognitive difficulties, and trust me both of these locations are the exception to the rule whenever I must stop in the rooms are full of light laughter and love! If you need daily or even occasional respite during the day reach out to activage in either location and go for a free visit you’ll be amazed! You have to promise not to be to hard on yourself for not knowing about these gems a long time ago! Just be thankful you found them and take some time to “Take care of yourself too” the bonus is, there’s no guilt, because the odds are, your loved one will have a better day than you did!!
