DOVE Transplant - Living Kidney Donation for Veterans DOVE's mission is to find, educate, support and match living kidney donors to Veterans in need. DOVE stands for Donor Outreach for Veterans.

DOVE believes in the power of community engagement to help remedy the kidney donor shortage for all. We are a nonprofit organization that serves as a "matchmaker" - raising awareness about Veterans who are waiting for a lifesaving kidney donor and connecting them with potential donors (friends, family, anonymous) who want to help. Once donors contact us, we provide them education and support throughout the evaluation and surgery to enhance their experience and ensure any expense is fully covered. Many of our donors, Veteran recipients remain connected with our growing community and stay on as volunteer mentors, advocates to continue raising awareness about lifesaving organ donation. DOVE is based in NJ however we serve Veterans throughout the US.

DOVE will end the year with Lucky Team 77 !!!

Jennifer Brofer contacted DOVE last July after reading a article about DOVE's mission to find for US Veterans in need.

Jennifer traveled from Texas to Milwaukee to donate as a standard voucher donor through the NKR. She has been paired with a fellow USMC Veteran who we hope will receive his "payback" living donor kidney transplant in the near future. In the meantime, Jennifer's kidney was shipped to an anonymous recipient waiting in the exchange pool. Jennifer has at least two people who will be transplanted because of her donation.

We want Jennifer to know she is in our prayers. We are grateful to her and we hope she has an easy recovery. Also we would like to recognize her boyfriend, Chris Lofland, her caregiver as she recovers. They both will be celebrating the New Year away from home.

Thank you to the transplant programs and professionals for working hard to to save lives everyday.

Jason Edmondson received his "payback" transplant in Texas on the 17th, just over a month after Tanya Ward donated on his behalf as an NKR voucher donor in Wisconsin! We are thrilled to receive these photos and learn that Jason recovering well and already looks and feels better. This transplant is extra special as Jason and his family have been working with DOVE for over 3 years. For some, the journey is longer - But we were in this together and we are thrilled for Jason to move forward with greater health and hope.
Sending love and appreciation to his living donor(s) Tanya, and the anonymous NKR donor, and all organ donors. Grateful for the transplant professionals who work so hard to save lives through the gift of organ donation.

The Federal Government has strong policies that support living organ and tissue donation.

Any federal employee who donates a kidney or a liver is entitled to 30 days of paid leave each calendar year. (Bone marrow donation is entitled to 7 days). This leave is deducted from a separate category of leave and is IN ADDITION to annual and sick leave.

Organ donation should be financially neutral for all donors. There are many resources (including DOVE) to cover the out of pocket expenses related to the evaluation and surgery.
This Federal policy provides donors with ample recovery time before resuming work. It is the LEAST we can do to thank these wonderful individuals for their lifesaving generosity.

We received the best update from Air Force Veteran Brian Volk - he got a surprise visit from his advanced voucher/living kidney donor - as he wrote: "I had a hero of a visitor today when Anita came to visit me at Duke Hosp. We donned our sweatshirts and posed for the photo! Anita's gift helped someone in NJ and my donor came from Oregon. Thank you guys for your assistance in all this! Time to get recovered and continue the search to help someone else find a donor!

Brian's note captures so much about the spirit of DOVE and the community investment. Because they participated in an exchange, there was at least one more person who received a lifesaving transplant. Now that Brian is transplanted, he is focused on his recovery as well as helping his fellow Veterans and others find their donors.
Anita is also raising awareness by sharing her story online and supporting DOVE.

We are on a roll...two more Veteran transplants happening today in Boston and North Carolina. Michael Alexander Team 54 and Brian Volk Team 62. Thanks to their Elizabeth and Anita who gave via advanced voucher donation through the NKR both are receiving the best possible matched living kidney donor transplants today!
We are so grateful to their lifesaving kidney donors and to all organ donors.
Thank you to the transplant teams and programs who work so hard to save lives every day.

Please join us in celebrating Team 76 - underway this morning at Husband and wife duo Mayra and Jose are . Jose was deemed Mayra's perfect match as a life partner and .
Getting to this transplant took a real team effort and required much travel and coordination of family, friends all pitching in to help with caregiving and childcare.

We were glad to help access resources to ensure they can focus on recovery versus financial stress!
We pray for a safe surgery and easy recovery! Here's to Mayra's health and hope for their future.
