While we can't always choose what health challenges might be thrown our way, we can choose how we respond to them.

I find myself today on the healing side of surgery. My whole life I have been very cautious in the sun and it still got me. I had a freckle on the back of my thigh, I didn't even know was there, the doctor said we caught it early. I now have a decent line of stitches to remind me.

I received the call that margins are all clear yesterday, he got it all.

A big thank you to my friend Shelby for her transparent Facebook posts about her battle with Melanoma and the importance of getting checked. It encouraged me to schedule my appointment.

I am focused on a healthier me in the new year. Not extreme and not overwhelming just- BETTER mentally and physically.

For You To Do:

Schedule an annual skin check with a dermatologist.

Over 20 years ago, I started creating vision boards for myself, throughout each year I would change it as things were no longer important to me, but one thing stayed on my list for about 10 years and that was to live on water. It brings me an incredible amount of peace.

I never wanted a place I had to drive to for just the weekend, or vacation and then have to leave on Sunday's to go home. I just wanted a small home on a lake that was my all day every day, forever home. A little over 8 years ago, life unfolded in a way that allowed my husband and I to buy a small home on Barton Lake.

This is my view over coffee in the morning. I don't take it for granted for one second. Grateful every day.

Write out what you want for your life, it may not show up exactly on your schedule, but in my experience the things most important to you, that you are willing to work hard for and stay focused on, will show up.

❤️ Good people, doing good in the world.
We love you Rise N Dine of Vicksburg!

Turning misfortune into good fortune.

The recent fire at the Rise N Dine has forced the restaurant to close until repair and cleanup is completed. Unfortunately, a large number of eggs will pass their expiration date before the reopening. I caught John this morning loading the eggs into his truck as the Debault family is donating those eggs to South County Community Services so families facing difficult times can find some relief. John Debault said, “We’ve chosen to make a business feeding people. It feels good to be able to do that, even though not in the conventional way, while we work to get back on our feet.” The Village of Vicksburg may be small, but the size of its heart should never be questioned.

New Blog Post: "Carrying Too Much"

I used to walk about a mile to school every day since kindergarten, I was a “towny.” I lived in town and a whole group of us walked to school together. I felt so grown up and independent. I loved it. It was safe, paved sidewalks the whole way, and Mr. Boise the crossing guard was always there to help us cross the big four lane Grand Street (US 131).

In school I loved music, art and presentations where I could make something. I loved making the volcano that erupted and the paper mâché stegosaurus with big spikes on his back. I loved learning new songs on my flute and I would stay up all night working on a new drawing with colored pencils.

It took me until 7th grade to notice that much of the group I walked with just had their lunch box and their backpack on, walking with ease. Neither out of breath nor a hurting back. They just chatted and laughed and arrived to and from school without much effort.

I, on the other hand, balanced everything I could think of that I might need that day at school. I had my flute and lunch box in one hand, my books and art supplies were in a bag that I had to put on crossbody so that it didn’t feel like my shoulders would fall off.
