Mojave Watershed

Mojave Watershed Welcome to the Mojave River Watershed Group! What is MRWG? What is stormwater pollution? Why is stormwater education so important to High Desert residents?

MRWG is an organization dedicated to educating the High Desert community (the City of Hesperia, the City of Victorville, the Town of Apple Valley and other unincorporated areas of the County of San Bernardino) about stormwater pollution prevention. Stormwater pollution, resulting from urban runoff, is a serious issue and is the single biggest environmental threat to the quality of our rivers, lakes and other local waterways. It can have a detrimental effect on public health and harm the well-being of local wildlife. Stormwater pollution is unique in the High Desert due to its geographic make-up. Our watershed flows directly to the Mojave aqueduct which is the direct source of our drinking water. Protecting this precious resource for yourself and your family is vital to our High Desert community. The good news? Stormwater pollution is preventable. Through simple measures, we can reduce stormwater pollution and keep our communities clean. It is up to us to preserve the essence of the Mojave Desert. Learn more about us and how you can get involved at www.mojaveriver.org.

Deck the halls, not the streets! 🎁✨

After your holiday festivities, take a few minutes to pick up leftover wrapping, cups, plates, and decorations. Compost food, recycle garbage and make sure there’s no debris outside that can wash into the storm drains. The Mojave River Watershed will thank you! 💧💙

Another successful year wrapped! ✨👏

From launching our easy-to-use water pollution reporting website feature and teaming up with incredible local businesses, we kept the Mojave River Watershed at the heart of everything we do. Being a Stormwater Trooper is basically the superpower for our ecosystem. Every small action creates a ripple effect. Pick up litter and sweep instead of using a hose to help protect the Mojave River Watershed.

Take the Stormwater Trooper Pact at the link in our bio and be the hero our watershed deserves. ✨

PRO TIP: If you’re in charge of holiday cooking this year, remember the F.O.G. rule – Fats, Oils and Grease:

🥶 Cool it – Let F.O.G cool and solidify.

🫙 Contain it – Pour cooled FOG into a container with a lid.

🚮 Trash it – Dispose of the sealed container in the trash.

Doing this keeps your drains clear, your kitchen smelling fresh, and our watershed clean.

International Volunteer Day celebrates the people who give their time to protect and uplift their communities.

For us, that means the volunteers who help keep trash out of storm drains, clean up local neighborhoods and care for the Mojave River Watershed. Your efforts protect our water, our wildlife, and our future. 💙✨

To all who have supported this work – thank you! And if you haven’t volunteered yet, don’t worry. It’s never too late to make a difference.
