I grew up in Lafayette, IN and completed my undergraduate degree in Chemistry at East Central University in Ada, OK. I then attended American University of the Caribbean in Sint Maarten for medical school and completed my rotations in Chicago, IL.

Something that drew me to psychiatry was experience working as an ABA therapist for children with Autism and growing up with my younger brother who has Down Syndrome. I eventually loved my experience with severe mental illness while in school and decided psychiatry was where I belonged.

My special interests in psychiatry include serious mental illness (SMI) in the inpatient setting and ECT/TMS.

I love IU Psychiatry in Vincennes because of the great support from my co-workers and faculty and how knowledgeable/interested in teaching our attendings are. I also love the experience with ECT/TMS that this program provides, which I had limited knowledge on prior to my residency.

Outside of medicine, my hobbies include traveling (Switzerland, Iceland, Italy, Mexico, and more), and spending time with my two kiddos.

“It’s me, hi. I’m the retiree, it’s me.”

Our beloved Judy Seitzinger has just entered her Retirement Era! Judy has been an integral part of our residency program, helping to guide each of our residency classes while on our inpatient psychiatric rotations. We will miss her dearly!

I was born and raised in Southern Indiana. I went to Indiana State for undergraduate studies and majored in Biology and minored in Chemistry and French. While there I participated in research focusing on water micro ecosystems and diatoms. I then went to medical school at the University of Pikeville Kentucky of Osteopathic Medicine in Appalachia. I really enjoyed my time there and loved the people and the town.

My special interests in medicine include rural and underserved areas. My goal is to be competent to practice psychiatry in an underserved area which includes being comfortable practicing in subspecialities such as geriatrics, addiction, and child psychiatry.

Outside of medicine I enjoy spending time with family, friends, and my two cats. I really like traveling, reading, and spending time in nature.

My favorite things about the IUSM Vincennes Psychiatry Residency Program are the people and education. I feel that my learning and training is a valuable strength for myself and patients. There are some truly great people that I am working with and learning from that make the experience special.

Our office staff put forth an incredible effort to bring this vision to life. We really are a lucky residency program to have such an amazing team! We also wanted to give our Information Systems Department a big "Thank You!" for their help and donations!

Psychiatry residency is a journey — sometimes intense, always rewarding. Here’s a roadmap for our residency program showing what this journey may look like for prospective residents year by year.

As a program, we strive to offer unique experiences in both clinical and academic settings. While most of our rotations are based in Vincennes, our residents have the opportunity to train at a number of other locations throughout Southern Indiana. Clinical sites include Good Samaritan (Vincennes), Evansville State Hospital (Evansville), Ascension St. Vincent (Evansville), Southwestern Behavioral Health (Evansville), and Daviess County Jail (Washington) to name a few. We have didactics on Wednesday afternoons at our outpatient clinic which allows for all of our residents to meet in one place to learn and socialize. Our program also emphasizes process group for interns to help support them as they acclimate to what residency entails.

Have any questions? Let us know in the comments!

Today marks the start of Meet and Greet Season for our residency program! Woohoo! We are so excited to get to know some of our prospective residents. We are also really excited to have them get to know our program (and Vincennes) a little more. Here’s a little information about Vincennes, IN with a few photos taken by our lovely Dr. Gloria Crump!

What’s so special about the history of Vincennes?

Vincennes is known as Indiana’s oldest city and was one of the earliest European settlements in the Midwest. It began as a frontier outpost for French fur traders, later passing its territory to the British following the French and Indian War. During the American Revolution, Vincennes played a crucial role in securing the Northwest Territory for the United States after George Rogers Clark captured it in 1779. In 1800, Vincennes was selected as the Indiana Territory’s capital, with William Henry Harrison serving as governor. Vincennes remained the territorial capital until the capital transitioned to Corydon, which would later become the first state capital, in 1813.

Vincennes today blends the city’s deep history into its small-town charm. We have many preserved historic sites including the old Territorial Capitol, William Henry Harrison’s Home, Jefferson Academy (part of Vincennes University – one of the first higher education schools in the United States’ History), the George Rogers Clark National Historic Park, and the Vincennes Historic District (over 1000 buildings with multiple architectural styles). We also have an annual US Revolutionary War reenactment called the Rendezvous which includes battle enactments, era-specific food and wares, period music, and storytellers. We also celebrate state history as a whole and have an incredible Indiana Military Museum which also features artifacts from WW1, WW2, and the Vietnam War.
