This Nurse Practitioner Week, we proudly honor Sarah Kennedy, NP.

As a board-certified Nurse Practitioner specializing in structural heart disease. Mrs. Kennedy earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from James Madison University and completed her Master of Science in Nursing at Georgetown University in 2015. With a strong foundation in critical care, she began her career in the cardiothoracic surgery ICU before transitioning to structural heart cardiology.

Mrs. Kennedy's clinical expertise spans the management of complex valve disorders, transcatheter interventions, and multidisciplinary heart team coordination. Passionate about advancing patient outcomes, she combines evidence-based practice with compassionate care in every aspect of her work. Her Supervisor/Team Coordinator said the following.

"Sarah Kennedy continues to be an extremely valued member of our APP Team with the Structural Heart Group. She stepped up in the time of need when the previous team lead left our group and has successfully taken over an extremely difficult role. It's a privilege to work alongside her."

Outside of work, Mrs. Kennedy enjoys spending time with her husband and their three children, reading, and relaxing at the beach. We are grateful for her service and commitment to our community!

šŸ½ļø Helping Little Ones Thrive at Mealtime šŸ’›

At Sentara Therapy Center, we specialize in pediatric feeding therapy—supporting children with utensil use, oral motor skills, and picky eating habits. Often, picky eating is rooted in sensory challenges, since eating involves all the senses!

✨ Using a variety of of approaches to provide individualized feeding therapy, such as SOS feeding, our therapists create a safe, child-led environment where kids can explore new foods through messy, fun food play—like painting with pudding or yogurt to learn shapes and textures.
One of our amazing kiddos recently hit a big milestone: he’s now independently using a spoon to eat cereal with milk! With the right tools and support, he’s also learned to open food containers—an important skill for school lunches!
šŸ’¬ His mom shared: "With the help of Ms. Tammy, his fine motor skills and eating abilities have improved so much. He can now scoop with a regular spoon and eat with utensils, which he couldn’t do before. We’re so happy he started going here and can’t wait to see how he continues to improve!"

If you’re feeling stuck with your child’s feeding challenges, our skilled pediatric speech and occupational therapists at Sentara Therapy Center locations are here to help. Talk to your pediatrician about a referral today or contact us at 855-852-9066 to schedule an appointment.
