Mojo bags
Before I begin I want everyone to know that when it comes to hoodoo or any type of witchcraft, there is no white or black magic, it’s just witchcraft, spiritual and ancestral. So many people have it in their mind that African/African American spirituality is black magic because of ignorance, misinformation and misconceptions applied by onlookers and outsiders. Every culture has their own base traditions and practices, that doesn’t make them any any better than the other or evil.
MOJO BAGS
Mojo bags are amulets used constantly in hoodoo, not unlike gris gris (talismans/amulets used in New Orleans voodoo/vodun) Mojo bags are essentially spells/prayers in a little bag that you carry with you. Each bag consists of herbs, roots, charms, graveyard dirt, tokens/coins and even animal parts. Mojos are often accompanied by a petition paper, prayers/psalms and chants, etc...
Red flannel has always been the traditional color to use for any mojo. But as things evolve and you want something a little more color specific, you could use a specific color that aligns with what you want. You can use flannel, but in my experience any fabric with the appropriate colors will do just fine even a small drawstring pouch.
For those who want to use a specific color, each color has its own meaning and serves a separate and specific purpose from the other. From protection, love, strength, lust, dispelling negativity, drawing wealth and prosperity, employment, fertility, luck, creativity, healing…just to name a few.
It is traditional for each person needing the same type of spell be made different mojos. Each one is crafted to the individual and their needs. So essentially if someone received a mojo bog created with another persons intent and needs it really wouldn’t satiate there needs or even give them the proper aid that they so desired.
The mojo bags are to remain hidden so most times they are either tied to your pants, bra, or clipped/pinned on the inside of your clothing.
