Sharing a Message Dr. M received from Lyra’s Clinical Quality Team:
"ADHD is often an “invisible” disability that can go unnoticed or underappreciated by others in terms of its impact on multiple important domains.
With that in mind, I wanted to share this 2023 longitudinal study conducted in Sweden regarding life instability for adults diagnosed with ADHD. Using national registry data over a 14-year span, the researchers found that relative to persons without an ADHD diagnosis, those who carried an ADHD diagnosis were more likely to demonstrate residential instability (i.e., changes in residential address), relationship instability (i.e., children having changes in parent/guardian(s) listed), and occupational instability (i.e., change of employment within 2 year windows). Given some of the clinical features associated with ADHD, including its impact on emotional, interpersonal, and performance based outcomes, these findings are not surprising."
Research like this not only helps us better understand the psychosocial aspects of ADHD, but hopefully provides some information on what resources are needed, as well as fuel to beat the odds!!!
