Remi Wissinger is a 4-year-old battling Leukemia B-Cell cancer. Her parents are two graduates of Connally High School, and her grandparents were both longtime employees of the district.

The family is hosting a benefit on Sunday, November 17. The event will feature silent & live auctions, raffle prizes, and food plates for $15.00 - dine in or to go. All proceeds from this event will go towards the family. We hope that the Connally community will come together to help support this family which has given so much to our school for decades.

Got a notice yesterday that BSW and BCBSTX are apparently having issues coming to an agreement on a new contract and therefore BSW will no longer be IN NETWORK as of 7/1... which means we need to find a new oncologist for the boy - His next appoint with BSW is for a f/u Echo next month, then oncology in August. I do not want any of these appointments to be too delayed! Who do y'all recommend???

Hello everyone!! It has been a minute since we've posted an update.
The boy is doing great! He is still in school full time working towards his cyber security degree & working & living his best life โค
He has been seeing oncology at BSW McClinton Cancer Center every 3 months since last August. His labs have been perfect ๐Ÿ‘Œ and so we just haven't had much to share.

He had an oncology appointment this past Monday and they told him he will now move to visits every 6 months since he has been off treatment 3 years come March. It sure doesn't feel like it's been almost 3 whole years!! But YAY TO THREE WHOLE YEARS!!

They do want to repeat labs for LDH (Lactate Dehydrogenase) because it was slightly high this time. From what I understand, this test detects tissue and organ damage or inflammation. The only other time it has been high was when he was diagnosed with ALL in 2017, but that result was extremely high.

The doctor thinks it is due to inflammation in his knees. Especially since he has been working a new job where he is constantly moving and is on his legs. She wants him to redo the labs when he has at least 2 consecutive days off work and isn't using his legs so much. So that should probably be redone in a couple of weeks.

That's all we've got for now. We'll share another update after his repeat labs ๐Ÿ˜‰

Mikey had his consult appointment with his new oncologist today. It went...fine. The experience was soooo very different than what we are used to at McLane's, as expected. At McLane's we rarely had to sit in the waiting room to be called back - but here we waited at least 45 minutes before we were called back AND they were 25 minutes behind according to our scheduled appointment time lol
Everyone was friendly, for the most part. The doctor was very nice and had clearly read through his chart as she mentioned his knees and the genetic clotting mutation ๐Ÿ‘ It was important for me to know that she studied up on him before this meeting. She was thorough with the information given and answered all of our questions - Mikey didn't really have any but you know this momma did lol
They do things very differently - he will have 2 appointments every 3 months because they schedule labs and his visit with the doctor a week apart... weird, right? He will go there to get labs drawn in November and the following Friday he will see the doctor to go over week old labs and discuss anything that needs discussing. Now, as mom - I'm not crazy about the fact that labs have to be drawn a week before the visit and I wasn't thrilled that we have to wait until November for labs because that would be 5 months in between count checks, since his last appt at McLane's was in June. But his labs have been perfect for some time now and he didn't feel like sticking around to be stuck today - so 5 months in between it is!
We definitely missed the feel of McLane's today but I think he will do just fine here.

7/3/23 Update - Derek met with the oncologist this morning - They are sending him for a PET scan, which he will have to pay $500 up front towards the cost. They are still waiting for the final biopsy results from the hospital to come back, that should be this week some time. He will go see the oncologist again late next week and hopefully they will have a treatment plan ready to go.
Please continue to share our fundraiser as every share & donation helps. We are immensely grateful for the shares & donations that we have received so far ๐Ÿซถ

Im setting up this fundraiser for my nephew. Derek has been in the hospital for several days and was just diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. He will have a port placed Wednesday morning. Derek was laid off from his full time job just before this diagnosis and his health insurance will lapse in a coup...
