Life lately- playing with other people’s pets and making a conscious effort to feel joy for the small things in life, like the flowers popping up all over the place now that spring is in full effect.

Today I was on a zoom call with a fellow breathwork practitioner and her cat popped in, and it looked *just* like Luna (when she was healthy).

It was so surreal and I felt a small wave of grief come over me.

Pet loss is weird. You’re fine one moment and a little sad the next.

I find myself still regressing to old habits and even -illogically- expecting Luna to be waiting for me on the sofa when I get home, or popping up on the bed in the dark.

It’s like her spirit is still here with me.

It’s only been 3 1/2 weeks but I feel like the hardest part has passed, and corny as it sounds, I’ve realized I have so much love to give to all animals.

I mean if I could, I think I’d raise cats and have like 10 of them lol. There’s at least three neighborhood cats I want to kidnap so watch out neighbors.
(just kidding 💕)

We women KNOW when we’re people pleasing.

We know we’re overachievers. Or that we can’t relax.

We know we have these patterns that are keeping us stuck in relationships that don’t make sense, in unhealthy habits, in careers that aren’t advancing the way we want.

We know these patterns are BURNING US OUT.

But we keep doing it anyways. And we don’t know why.

Self-awareness of your patterns is always step zero but how do you OVERCOME them and grow?

Just knowing what you “should” do is never enough.

Because no matter how many positive affirmations you say to yourself, your nervous system didn’t get the memo.

Your BODY didn’t get the memo. It still wants to play it safe.

So you need to re-train it.

This is work I do with my clients in THRIVE, and one of my favorite tools for doing that is Somatic Breathwork.

Want to try it out?

➡️ Comment or DM me “breath”.

If you’re in Rhode Island, you’re invited to my upcoming Somatic Breathwork journey at .

If you’re not local, fear not, I guide virtual sessions and they are equally powerful.

If you’re ready, let’s connect!

6 spots left for Sunday's Somatic Breathwork Journey at DRIFT

Details: https://www.rooted.life/events/sbwdrift3

Here's the thing about Somatic Breathwork. Yes, you will breathe more deeply than you probably have in years. For a short time, you'll be 100% focused on your breath.

BUT it's not about the breath. It's not about "technique".

It's about being human. Feeling what you haven't allowed yourself to feel. Processing stress that's been building up inside you, making you want to burst.

It's about FREEING yourself to be who you are.

Try it and you'll understand what I mean.

I always say whomever shows up for these sessions, that's who was meant to be there. If it ends up being you, I look forward to holding space for you.

Why I’ve made somatic breathwork the cornerstone of my work helping women overcome burnout:

Simple breathwork was the first tool for “stress management” that actually worked for me (after years of failed attempts at meditation).

Just doing ~3 minutes of box breathing each morning, I gradually noticed a difference in my overall ‘reactiveness’ to stress. I felt less anxious and on-edge.

🌟BUT when I first experienced Somatic Breathwork (ie my first breathwork session), I was BLOWN AWAY.

I had a weird/unexpected flashback to an uninteresting moment I hadn’t thought about in many years.

I won’t go into the details but it revealed to me how much imposter syndrome - never feeling like I’m “good enough” - had held me back in my life in the past when I was in academia, and how it was continuing to hold me back in my post-burnout, post-academic life.

And dammit, I didn’t want that.

I wanted to feel confident to share my ideas and gifts with the world. I didn’t want to feel fear anymore. I didn’t want to hold back. I didn’t want to wear a mask or walk with trepidation.

I’d done lots of journaling and therapy around this but it wasn’t till that Somatic Breathwork session that things really ‘clicked’ for me. I could see clearer. I felt different.

Since then, I’ve committed to receiving regular Somatic Breathwork sessions and using them as a tool to push myself to take scary action in life.

This is just one way that Somatic Breathwork has impacted me. And it’s one of the reasons that motivates me to share it.

This may sound trite, but we only have one life to live. And too many of us are living in a way that’s completely divorced from what we deeply want for ourselves. It drives us to burnout.

>>> If you’re ready to experience this for yourself, comment or DM me “breath” for more info. I currently lead virtual 1-1 sessions and I’ve got a group session at coming up soon.

I know I talk about this way too much, but bear with me. I'm having an important brain dump!

Just doing ~3 minutes of box breathing each morning, I gradually noticed a difference in my overall 'reactiveness' to stress. I felt less anxious and on-edge.

I won't go into the details but it revealed to me how much imposter syndrome - never feeling like I'm "good enough" - had held me back in my life in the past when I was in academia, and how it was continuing to hold me back in my post-burnout, post-academic life.

Are you keeping your brilliant ideas to yourself in meetings at work?

Agreeing to take on smaller obligations and bigger projects that are outside your scope of responsibility- and that you really don’t want to do?

Do you keep your mouth shut when your boundaries are violated- or even just when your steak is served medium well instead of rare - because you don’t want to complain?

People pleasing can show up in so many ways.

And when it’s a pattern, it’s also a one-way ticket to burnout.

**Btw, when I say that ‘the roots of burnout are in YOU, not your job’, this is a key example of what I mean.

Here’s the thing: hiding your voice is doubly stressful:

1. It’s stressful having to wear a mask, pretend you’re someone you’re not.

2. Agreeing to things you really want to reject is stressful because it makes you angry (even if you don’t want to admit it). And usually you end up pointing that anger inward at yourself. It’ll make you sick.

The first step to growing past this pattern? —> acknowledging that you’ve got it. Self-awareness.

The next step? Taking scary action. Letting yourself say “no”. Speaking up when you disagree. Expressing when you’re angry. Sending back the overcooked steak!

If you resonate with this post, I want you to know you are NOT alone. In my burnout recovery coaching program, THRIVE, unraveling people pleasing is a common challenge for many of my clients.

One way we start doing it is through Somatic Breathwork. If you’d like a taste of what that’s like, I invite you to sign up for a 1-1 session. Or, if you’re in Rhode Island, come to my next breathwork session at !

Just DM me ‘breath’ for details.

Long story short, this is how I learned to listen to my body and let it inform my decisions.

(And yeah, I broke up with him within 48 hours of that realization- watch till the end 😉)

I wish it hadn’t taken a head injury, but they say everything happens for a reason and I believe that.

Most women who are ultra stressed and burnt out are living 100% of their lives in their head.

Overanalyzing everything. Trying to ‘figure things out’. Scared of making the wrong decision - or of the uncertain outcome the ‘right’ decision might bring.

When you can tap into your body, your intuition, and really start to trust it, so much in life becomes easier.

Setting boundaries feels natural.
Self-care feels natural.
Voicing your opinions, needs, and desires feels natural.
Big life decisions feel simpler.

I don’t believe you need a head injury (or some other kind of serious health problem) to learn this.

You just need help pausing, getting out of your head, and reconnecting with your body (and natural intuition!).

Here’s 2 ways I can help you start down that path:

A) let me guide you through a Somatic Breathwork session (virtually)

B) join me and a small group of fellow humans April 26th for an in-person Somatic Breathwork journey at (if you’re local to Rhode Island).

Comment or DM me “breath” for details on either one of those.

I have a little challenge for you. Go try that short somatic breathwork practice.

Do it daily for one week. And observe how you feel (and come tell me about it!)

💕Comment BREATH to access it.

Having developed this consistent daily breathwork practice is one of the reasons I’m able to even show up this week, after losing Luna on Monday.

The pain is still there. I feel it deeply. But I’m able to shift out of it for at least part of the day to share my thoughts with you and to hold space for clients.

I want that for you.

I want you to get to the point where you can experience the ‘good’ and the ‘bad’ at the same time, and keep moving forward.

Comment (or DM me) BREATH and I’ll send over the practice.

That freedom to be fully human has been such a blessing.

It’s a freedom I haven’t always given myself.

And it’s what’s helped me pick myself up and get something productive done today, even if it’s just to write an email and share these thoughts here.
