Puncturevine, also known as goathead or devil's thorn, is classified as a Class B noxious w**d in Washington. This time of year, puncturevine infestations are often large and actively producing hundreds to thousands of sharp-spined burrs.
Washington state code requires property owners to control and prevent the spread of noxious w**ds including puncturevine. Spraying puncturevine with herbicides is not effective when it's this mature. The plants should be pulled from the ground and disposed of. If possible, also collect any seeds that have fallen so they don't germinate in future years. To pick them up, you can use a broom or vacuum, sweep the area with a remnant of carpet or fabric, or press packing foam on them.
