Just as rain doesn’t create drought,
feasts don’t create hunger,
and generosity doesn’t create poverty,
meeting a child’s needs for attachment,
attention, and affection in childhood
doesn’t create needy adults.
Just the opposite, in fact.
A child whose emotional needs are nourished
tends to grow into an emotionally healthy adult
in the same way a child whose
physical needs are nourished
tends to grow into a physically healthy adult.
It is unmet needs that create need,
not met needs.

Our number one responsibility as parents is to always work towards keeping ourselves emotionally healthy🙏🏻 - Because how we feel has everything to do with how we are able to show up as parents.

We have to break the cycle of hurting children to raise children. Hurting children grow up to believe that children deserve to be hurt, that they MUST be hurt to be raised well. And thus generational pain is passed along. But, sometimes, hurting children grow up and recognize the destructive pattern. They do the work to heal themselves and to find ways to raise their children peacefully. And the generational pain cycle is broken. This is our time, our chance to heal ourselves and to heal the future. Let’s choose the path of peace, my friends. Let’s break the cycle, not the child. Let’s change the world, one little heart at a time.🌎

Fred Rogers said, “Listening is where love begins.”

As parents we sometimes think, “I’m listening. I just don’t know what comes next!”

Answer: When love begins with listening, responding with love comes next!

Parents: “But HOW?”

The answer might surprise you:

💞Acknowledging our children’s innate right to have different opinions, viewpoints, tastes, and desires than ours

💞Communicating simply and briefly our understanding of their needs

💞Compromising when and where possible

💞Being flexible and reasonable while still maintaining healthy boundaries calmly, but firmly

💞Supporting our children through their big feelings (even the ones that make us uncomfortable)

💞Providing our children with healthy ways to express negative emotions

💞Guiding our children back to peace by modeling peaceful behavior ourselves

Remember, responding with love doesn't mean always giving our children what they want. It means giving our children what they NEED — to be heard, to be seen, to be understood, to be helped through their big feelings, and to be peacefully guided back to peace.

Children are whole people.
They are separate individuals.
They are humans with problems
and plans and goals and opinions
and preferences and interests
and wants and needs and feelings
and good days and bad days and ideas
and anxieties and hopes and fears
and dreams and disappointments that are
just
as
valid
as
ours.
🌱
Give them space to grow and explore.
🌱
Help them if and when they ask for help.
🌱
Encourage them when they struggle.
🌱
Support them when they fail.
🌱
And guide them gently
when they get off course.
🌱
Love is the answer
to every question,
every problem,
every challenge.
🌱
Love is always the answer.
🌱
That is the heart of peaceful,
gentle, respectful parenting.

A parenting mantra to tuck in your pocket:

So many problems can be avoided if we respond with L.O.V.E. instead of reacting in haste…

💞Listen - “I hear you.”
💞Observe - “I see you.”
💞Validate - “I accept you.”
💞Empathize - “I understand you.”

Remember, a need met is a problem solved. Responding with love restores peace — to your relationship, to your child, and to yourself.
