Kids feel big feelings too and they can learn healthy ways to handle them. At Kind Heart Behavioral Health, we love teaching simple coping skills kids can actually use in everyday life.
Some kid‑friendly coping ideas:
💡Creative activities: Draw your feelings, color, journal, or make a calm‑down box.
🏃🏽♀️➡️Move the body: Jumping jacks, dancing to music, stretching, or going for a walk to shake off extra energy.
🧠 Calm the mind: Deep belly breathing, counting slowly to 10, or guided imagery/meditation to help the nervous system settle.
🙌🏽👂🏽Sensory tools: Listen to music, squeeze a stress ball, hold a comfort item, or get a big bear hug.
🫂 Talking it out: Name the feeling out loud and talk with a trusted adult; practice “I am…” and “I feel…” statements to build emotional language.
These small practices add up, helping kids feel more in control, more understood, and more connected to the people who care about them.
If your child is struggling with big feelings, anxiety, or behavior changes, it’s okay to ask for support. You don’t have to figure it out alone. 🤍🩷💜
