Kids feel big feelings too and they can learn healthy ways to handle them. At Kind Heart Behavioral Health, we love teaching simple coping skills kids can actually use in everyday life.

Some kid‑friendly coping ideas:

💡Creative activities: Draw your feelings, color, journal, or make a calm‑down box.

🏃🏽‍♀️‍➡️Move the body: Jumping jacks, dancing to music, stretching, or going for a walk to shake off extra energy.

🧠 Calm the mind: Deep belly breathing, counting slowly to 10, or guided imagery/meditation to help the nervous system settle.

🙌🏽👂🏽Sensory tools: Listen to music, squeeze a stress ball, hold a comfort item, or get a big bear hug.

🫂 Talking it out: Name the feeling out loud and talk with a trusted adult; practice “I am…” and “I feel…” statements to build emotional language.

These small practices add up, helping kids feel more in control, more understood, and more connected to the people who care about them.

If your child is struggling with big feelings, anxiety, or behavior changes, it’s okay to ask for support. You don’t have to figure it out alone. 🤍🩷💜

Screen time isn’t just about too many hours on the phone it can impacts a child’s entire life. Too much screen time doesn’t just tire kids eyes, it can slowly chip away at their sleep, mood, focus, health, and relationships. When screens start replacing play, talking, and rest, we see more big feelings, more meltdowns, and less joy. Please see some tips to help improve your child’s relationship with screen time.

🤲🏽Make small swaps: Trade 30 minutes of scrolling for 30 minutes of play, reading together, or going outside.

😴 Protect sleep: Turn screens off at least one hour before bedtime and keep devices out of bedrooms when possible.

📵Create tech‑free zones: Keep mealtimes, car rides, and family activities mostly screen free so kids can talk, connect, and decompress.

🔂Use routines, not constant “no’s”: Set clear times when screens are allowed so kids know what to expect.

❤️Lead by example: Let kids see you taking breaks from your own phone and choosing rest, movement, or connection too.

As caregivers, we don’t have to be perfect, but we can be intentional. If your child’s sleep, mood, or behavior is being impacted by screens and you’re not sure what to do next, I’d love to support your family in finding a healthier balance.💜🤍🩷✨

🌱 November is Early Childhood Mental Health Awareness Month! 🌱
Early childhood mental health reflects the healthy social, emotional, spiritual, and behavioral development of children from birth to age eight. Native culture teaches us that children come into the world with gifts, purpose, and connection to their ancestors. Their ability to form secure relationships, express emotions, and explore their environment is shaped not only by biology and genetics, but also by the love, teachings, and cultural experiences surrounding them. When little ones grow within nurturing, culturally grounded environments, they build strong roots that support well-being across their lifespan.

Kind Heart Behavioral Health had the honor of participating in the Doane Dialogue Series today, joining an inspiring conversation on Mental Health from an Indigenous Perspective🤍🩷💜!

Our CEO, Keli Warrior, a proud Doane University alumna🐅👩🏽‍🎓 , was deeply grateful to participate via zoom to share Indigenous perspectives on healing, resilience, and community wellness. Together with other panelists, we explored how historical and intergenerational trauma, traditional healing practices, and culturally responsive care shape mental well-being across generations🧡!

It was a powerful reminder that healing happens when stories, cultures, and communities come together. Thank you, Suzanne Mealer for creating space for dialogue and understanding✨!

If you or your organization would like to host meaningful conversations around culturally responsive mental health, community wellness, or Indigenous healing, reach out to Kind Heart Behavioral Health this is the work we are honored to do🤍🩷💜🫶🏽!

Kind Heart had the honor of presenting to Boys Town In-Home Family Services of Iowa!🤍💛💙

I’m thankful for the opportunity to collaborate with such an incredible team dedicated to supporting children and families within their communities. My presentation focused on providing trauma-informed care for Indigenous youth and families honoring culture, resilience, and healing through understanding and empathy.

It’s truly inspiring to see organizations like Boys Town Iowa continue improving their services to ensure they are meeting the needs of Indigenous people in ways that are culturally grounded and trauma-responsive.
Kind Heart is deeply grateful to work alongside professionals who share our vision of creating inclusive, compassionate, and culturally aware spaces for all families.🤍🩷💜

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month—a time to uplift stories of strength and remind every relative in our community that early screening saves lives.🩷

Native women are often diagnosed later, so sharing information and fostering supportive spaces makes a difference. Wearing pink honors survivors, supports those facing treatment, and remembers those we’ve lost. Let’s encourage friends and family to talk with their healthcare providers about screening options, support one another, and normalize conversations around breast health and mental wellness. Every story matters. 💗
