Brave Steps Appalachia

Brave Steps Appalachia Faith-rooted, non-professional peer support space for adults facing mental health challenges in Appalachia. Taking brave steps forward together.

Welcome to Brave Steps Appalachia! Guided by our faith, Christian principles, and a desire to glorify God, this page is a supportive resource for adults (18+) in Appalachia facing mental health challenges. We aim to foster understanding, encouragement, and connection within our community. Here, you'll find links to local mental health resources, positive news as well as information relevant to our region/mission, and details about our private peer support group. This group is intended to offer a safe and non-judgmental space for adults to share their experiences, find encouragement, and take brave steps toward well-being and hope, together. Please note that our group is a peer support group and is not and should not be a substitute for professional medical or therapeutic help.

if you're finding yourself in those days, take your time. minute by minute. everything is temporary đź’—

Self-care doesn’t have to be this super time-consuming 10-step process.
Sometimes it’s meeting your water goal for the day. Sending that one overdue text. Getting your inbox to a manageable level. Sitting down for five minutes to actually relax.
Tiny things count.
What’s your go-to “bare minimum but still a win” self-care move?

It's absolutely ok to share publicly. I wrote this because people who share privately do not get the benefit of comfort from people -the way people who share openly get support - so thereby somebody should comfort these private people... this is the point of this point. If you do share publicly that's wonderful. But if you don't ... you might feel alone at times... so this is for you....

• A JOYful Memo •
Everyone has their own path.
Travel yours with integrity and wish all others
peace on their journey.
When your paths merge,
rejoice for their presence in your life.
When the paths are separated,
return to the wholeness of yourself.
Give thanks for the footprints left on your soul,
and embrace the time to journey on your own.

I come from hills where the blackberries grow,
Where the creek talks soft and the pine trees know.
Mama’s prayers and Daddy’s boots-
Lord knows I’m thankful for my roots.

We didn’t have much, but we had the day,
And time moved slow in a good kind o’ way.
Sunrise work and supper light,
Stars like diamonds cuttin’ the night.

Now I’m older, gone some miles,
Seen the world through different styles.
But I still stop and breathe it in-
The rain, the wind, the way back when.

I ain’t forgot where I come from-
It’s in my walk, it’s in my thumb.
And every day I try to be
A little more of what raised me.

KINDNESS MAKES A BETTER TOMORROW FOR YOU AND FOR OTHERS. Kindness creates hope and calms fear. Kindness may even come when someone doesn't know they need it.
