What happened to Kathy Luongo?

TWO THINGS this morning...1st, we have reached 600 friends of Kathy Nicastro Luongo. Thank you all for being involved and staying involved. Each one of us is a voice.
2nd, we want to say something about Kathy's car. Did you know it stayed in the WPD outdoor impound lot for over 30 years after Kathy's murder? Usually cars involved as crime scenes are properly processed, maybe a few times, and then returned to the family. When did that car get put on the outside on the lot? Because once that is done, the car can no further be considered secure evidence. By the time it left the impound lot after 33 years, it was a rusted bucket, full of rain and mold and animals. And why didn't any members of Kathy's family claim the car back in 1984? Did the car not, at the very least, have monetary value? Could the vanity license plate been kept as a keepsake? Was it never offered back by the WPD. Did the family never inquire about its return? Not her husband, not her parents, not her siblings?

Please get involved. Don't sit on the sidelines. Don't think that you said all you had to say so many years ago. Don't feel comfortable letting sleeping dogs lie. There's nothing left if the living don't continue to fight for those who have been murdered.

This is a page dedicated to the cold case murder of Kathy Luongo in Warwick, Rhode Island, in 1984. Kathy was a 28 year old wife to David Luongo and mother to then two-year old son Matthew. Kathleen Ann Nicastro was born in 1955 in Central Falls, Rhode Island, to George and Beverly Nicastro. She graduated from East Greenwich Highschool in 1974. The Luongo’s lived in the Warwick Vets neighborhood on Hamilton Avenue. She was formerly employed as an accountant at Hospital Trust National Bank (1974-1977) and as a clerk in the Eastern Regional Sales office of Bostitch (1977-1982). At the time of her death she frequented the Holiday Health & Fitness Center in the Warwick Mall Plaza.
At 9pm, Friday May 20th, 1984, Kathy had a fight with her husband and left their Warwick home. By 9pm Saturday, May 21st, she had not returned home and David reported her to the police as missing. Her car, a blue 1976 Blue Toyata Celica hatchback with LUONGO vanity plates, was reported to have been seen several times driving around the area that day. Sunday, May 22nd, at 12pm, she was found dead by bystander who was there to watch a softball game. Kathy was found in the backseat of her car, which was abandoned in the parking lot between Warwick City Hall and the The Annex, which housed the Warwick Police Department. The initial cause of death was believed to be an overdose, though no evidence pointed that direction. The autopsy, which was released the afternoon of Tuesday May 24th, reported her death for the first time as a homicide by strangulation—death anywhere from 12 – 24 hours prior. The morning of Wednesday, May 25th, she was buried at Saint Joseph Cemetery in West Greenwich.
The murder of Kathy Nicastro Luongo—a daughter, wife, mother, colleague and friend—has never been solved.
