It has been hard for me to come around to share that we are closing down the Be Free Live Fully platform with the final class on Monday July 4th at 10am with

It was hard to see something come to a close because I had so many dreams and ideas for how would transform.

But, in the end I realized that those dreams and ideas are still in motion with this community whether it was held on a website or not. And so I feel good about sharing how much it's been an absolute pleasure to share yoga and wellness with you all the last couple of years.

As a team, we’ve witnessed your growth, your healing, and your ability to keep taking care of yourself by coming to the mat daily. You supported each other, our teachers and us even when it sometimes felt hard. You inspired us to be better.

The tagline "be free, live fully", came to light while in the Dupont Le Pain Quotidien (actually here right now!) in early spring 2014 when trying to figure out how to become a wellness business. I read in some business literature that I needed to create something that was catchy and that had meaning for me as a yoga teacher and health coach.

So I sat here/there with pen and paper and thought about why I practiced yoga and how I felt about being in the world as a whole. I brought some tagline ideas to a few friends and colleagues and that was when Voila(!) BE FREE LIVE FULLY was born!

Here are some of my notes -

What does it mean to BE FREE

To live openly
To be yourself
To be free from shackled thinking
To break molds that don’t serve
To live in alignment with our highest selves

What does it mean to LIVE FULLY

I think to be courageous enough to expose yourself over and over again
To stop searching for meaning outside of yourself
To realize the impermanent nature of all things

May you find all the ways that bring you freedom and the fullness of life. ✨

We hope to catch you by Monday! If not, we will all be here to support with our own separate offerings so stay connected!

Big love, Jess + Greg and Team✨

I'm excited that today has finally arrived! Scared and energized at the same time to share my new offerings to the world. To you.

Over the last few years, I felt uneasy and overwhelmed about how I wanted to show up.

I realized how many holistic offerings often exclude black and brown people.

It became even more obvious when I tried to find a therapist in 2020, I had a hard time finding someone who was non-white.

While this search was happening, I realized I also wasn’t presenting myself as who I really was–someone who is non-white. I’m Anishinaabe First Nations and Punjabi Indian.

And how my experiences as being this background heavily influence how I show up in the world.

How many code-switching, passing, and releasing triggering moments happen without anyone noticing. I came to understand that not showing up as my true self and not sharing this journey was keeping other people feeling like they couldn’t fully be themselves, too.

I realized that there was a need for more people to openly share who they really are and how they are able to not only survive in this very patriarchal and white supremacist world but how they are also thriving under these intense circumstances. Able to do so with tools that, again, are not so easily accessible to people without means. Someone who can understand them at a level they didn’t know was possible.

As I internally cried for more representation, it became abundantly clear that I needed to be a part of the change that I wished to see.

So I did three things:

- I finally jumped into a somatic coaching training that I’d been eyeing for years.
- I hired a coach to help me project to the world how I truly wanted to be seen: as an Indigenous healer with Punjabi roots.
- To create offerings I would want to see offered from a brown person to other brown and black people purposely.

Here are my new offerings:

- Starting in September, working as a somatic coach for women and women of color.
- Monthly women’s circles for women of color start in the fall.
- Monthly moon circles for all women starting in the fall.
- Weekly online and waterfront yoga as Jessica Sandhu Wellness through a new platform.

It’s true.🤍

Posted • One of the most supportive things you can do for another human being is reflect back to them the truth and goodness of who they really are. And one way you can do that is by helping people name how they're feeling in a validating and non-judgmental way.

This can help all of us learn to feel our feelings so that we can move through them instead of internalizing them.

When we're upset, we're often not just feeling one feeling. Feelings can be layered and complicated, especially because most of us reject certain feelings we've been shamed out of at some point in our lives, so we instead opt to express in a way that we've learned to be more socially acceptable.

For example, I may feel deeply sad but if I've been shamed out of crying, I might continue to say it's not a big deal and hold back the tears that are begging to be released in an attempt to look "strong."

So when you're holding space for another, it can be incredibly helpful to mirror back what you see them experiencing.

"Wow, that sounds super disheartening. Did that make you feel sad?"

"It sounds like that was really painful to experience."

"It makes sense that you'd be angry!"

For many of us, it can be hard to name what exactly what we're feeling, but when someone else can accurately name the thing that's going on inside of us, it validates the feeling, allows it, and makes it safe for it to exist.

And simply allowing ourselves to feel what we need to feel can help us calm our nervous system and sit with the feeling so that we can move through it.

We talk a lot about how to be a good listener and hold space for others in the Relationship Management Workshop beginning June 15 at 4pm pacific. We also talk in depth about how to give and receive feedback, tools for approaching and understanding conflict, creating psychologically safe environments, and more. There are only a few spots left for this one!

DM "relationships" for more info.
