Let’s talk about normalizing the reality: the first 12 weeks of breastfeeding can be tough, but crucial for establishing a solid milk supply. It’s a delicate balance—dropping pumps, especially overnight, requires being in oversupply to ensure baby’s needs are met without compromising.

Yet, the stigma around oversupply often leaves us hesitant to pursue this path, leaving us feeling stuck in our pumping routines.

Who else has felt the pressure to maintain a perfect balance while navigating their breastfeeding journey? Let’s talk about it in the comments.

Ever wonder when it’s time to replace those trusty breast pump parts?

Silicone duckbills: Monthly swap! These little wonders do a lot of heavy lifting. For optimal performance, switch them out monthly.

Silicone membranes: Every 1-2 Months… they’re the unsung heroes of your pumping routine. Make sure they’re fresh and effective by replacing them every 1-2 months.

Plastic parts: as needed! Keep an eye out for wear and tear. If something doesn’t feel right, it might be time time to refresh those plastic components.

Bonus: Replace tubing as needed, but if tubing gets wet inside then discard and replace.

How often do you replace your parts? Let’s talk about it in the comments.

Overnight at at least one time which is between the hours of 12AM to 6AM may help with your supply so….

Sleep or Supply?

Here’s a harsh reality: sleeping through your middle-of-the-night pump can eventually lead to a decrease in your breastmilk supply.

While it may take up to 12 weeks to bring in your supply, consistent nighttime pumping from birth is a critical element of your pumping success during that time and potentially beyond.

So, what’s your experience with middle-of-the-night pumping? Let’s talk about it in the comments.

We believe that you should be able to determine your cycle and vacuum settings independently of each other for a primary pump.

Cycle = speed
Vacuum/Level = strength

Note: There is so much more to considering a primary pump than strength or how strong the pump is. If someone is just telling you a small motor is strong does not mean that it has the customizations your body may need.

Most small motors and wearables, this is not possible that the cycle and vacuum/level are independent. When it goes up in vacuums, it slows down in speed. A small motor or wearable is not considered a primary pump and your only pump option on this platform. If you are using a small motor and/or wearable as your only pump option then continue to do what is best for you and this post does not apply to you. For example, if you go to level 1 vs 9/12 then the speed is usually much slower.

We believe that primary pump should:
✅have 60-100 + setting options
✅have 6-10+ cycle speeds
✅cycle and vacuum independent of each other (also when you go up it vacuum, it keeps the same speed/cycle)
✅not small motor or wearables

Also, the pumps here are rechargeable (portable and can be mobile) except one. So don’t let people make you think you cannot move around if the pump is a little bigger. Your body may need the customizations for your milk supply.

Do you have these independent settings on your pump? If not, it could have an impact on your pumping journey.

Pumps featured:
Spectra S1
Pumpables SuperGenie
Motif Luna
Spectra Synergy Gold
Cimilre S6+
Unimom Opera

Note: We are not endorsing any pump here and there are other pumps that have cycle and vacuum settings independent, we just wanted to show you something to look for in pumps you may be considering.

And most of these pumps are completely different which is why we offer consults to talk to you about the 60-70 pumps that we own to make sure we learn about you and your body first before providing a pump recommendation.

We can provide our professional recommendation on pumps in a consult once we learn about you and your goals. DM us the word “Help” to get started working with us today.
