Are va**nal discharge, cervical mucus, and arousal fluid all the same thing?
Not really.
➳ Vaginal Discharge-
Vaginal discharge is technically anything that comes out of your vag, which can include blood, s***m, l***s, and female-hygiene products, as well as cervical mucus and arousal fluid.
Unless it has a foul smell or is accompanied by itching/burning/pain va**nal discharge is totally normal, healthy, and important. It’s job is to clear out dead cells and bacteria. It helps keep your va**na clean & infection free.
➳ Cervical Mucus-
This is a clear-watery or gel-like fluid produced by your cervix. Because it’s mostly controlled by estrogen, it’s presence and appearance fluctuate throughout your cycle. It’s job, on your fertile days, is to nourish & protect s***m as it travels to your egg.
Paying attention to your cervical mucus (cm) is important. There are 3 types:
1. Post-Period CM:
Basically dry. There is generally very little CM present. It may be red, yellow, or white in color and sticky to the touch as you end your period. As ovulation approaches it becomes creamer or lotion-like.
2. During Ovulation CM:
This is the famous ‘egg whites’. The baby-making mucus. Estrogen is rising quickly at this time in the cycle, causing your cervix to produce ‘fertile quality’ mucus. It’s clear, sticky, and stretchy -it looks like egg whites.
3. Post-Ovulation CM:
After ovulation your cervical mucus will lessen in quantity and thicken.
➳ Arousal Fluid-
This is your natural l**e. When you become sexually aroused blood flow to your ge****ls increases and pushes fluid out of your va**nal walls, making you ‘wet’.
When thinking ‘arousal fluid’ you may also be wondering about sq**rting or female ej*******on. This occurs when the contractions during an or**sm cause arousal fluid to sq**rt out of the va**na.
The fluid comes from glands (called Skene’s glands) located near the urethra. Although it’s popular in p**n, not many women experience this irl.
