For Day 6 of I am grateful for all of God’s creation. From dust to dust we all come and go. The most humbling awareness I have is how temporary our time on this plane is. And while I often struggle to understand why we allow human suffering when the earth is so vast and abundant in resources, today I chose to not analyze. Today, I say thank you to this sweet earth that is the collective us.🌍

On this Saturn’s day is Day 5 of . I am intellectually fortified by these 5 revolutionary women (in order of upload picture): Harriet Tubman, Yaa Asantewa, Claudia Jones, Winnie Mandela, and Assata Shakur. There is a longer list of powerful women and femmes that I adore, yet this circle of 5 are my midwives. As a young scholar, and my conscious journey started in high school, I recognize now that my foundation of intellectualism was laid with a heavy dose of knowledge of the contributions of Black men.

Besides growing up in Eurocentric patriarchal environments all of my early development (from Nigeria to UK to USA), I also grew up in a male dominant household. My father (may his soul rest in eternal peace and power!) was a force of nature. His energetic ideas about life, spirituality, and freedom were intoxicating to my young mind. And while both he and my mother were soldiers in the Biafran war, my father was frontline and it informed so much about his fatherhood style.

So, as a young seeker of knowledge, I had to find my own way to understood the feminine nature of the fire ignited in me from early childhood. And it is these 5 powerful Black women are my first teachers.

None of their lives were easy…actually, they all led tragically powerful lives. Some of them birthed, some of them did not. Yet all of them are my mothers. And I am deeply and eternally grateful for the poetic vision of liberation and justice that informed their concrete and innovative approaches to liberation. A luta continua!❤️✊🏾✨

I had revelation this morning of Day 4 of my gratitude practice! For years now, resonated with me because 21 is a spiritually sacred number of completion and spiritual transformation, particularly in the Vedic tradition.

This morning, when meditating on what I’m grateful for today, the answer came loudly to me: I am deeply grateful to the 22 founders of Delta Sigma Theta, Incorporated! The journey to becoming a Delta remains a key transformation from girl to woman. I searched and found the meaning of sisterhood because of these 22 Devastating Divas! Their story captures the collective courage that is consistent with the sacred bond that defines African matriarchy.

And while there are many other sisterhood networks to be a part of, and I am proudly in many networks of amazing women, the sacredness of DST is unmatched. The force is strong and I feel it deep in my heart! For me Delta Sigma Theta is the only way!🐘

I am grateful for the courage of our 22 founders, and the continuity of care from generation to generation to preserve our sisterhood by many dynamic leaders that uphold our values of Sisterhood, Scholarship, and Service.

So, today, my gratitude has led me to change from to . And so shall it be for the rest of this cycle and for future cycles of my gratitude practice. This is the best way I currently know how to share my love and devotion to my beloved DST and the 22 young women who turned a dream into reality starting on January 13, 1913. Thank you dearest ancestral Sorors!!❤️🔺💃🏾❤️

Today is Day 3 of and I take this time to honor my big brother .oruh! Nduka is a quiet giant with a huge heart and for tolerating all my antics growing up, he deserves a prize lol! Everything I’ve lost, he has lost. And he has endured so much more than any one person should. May God grant you all the blessings of your name: happiness is greater than wealth. May you achieve all your dreams and I pray to celebrate many more decades together on this plane. Thank you for being solid as rock. You are irreplaceable!!💙

For day 2 of , I celebrate and am eternally grateful to all the mothers that made me! From my own matriarch, Mama Patience, to my paternal matrilineage, Mama Mary, I am fortified and deeply rooted. Both of these magnificent Oruh women, my personal creators, are featured in this photo. The bottom line, is that there would be no me without them. ❤️🖤💚💛

These are the powerful, final words of Alice Wong, a disability justice seeker and health equity advocate. To take the time to pen a message to us before becoming an ancestor is an incredible act of love. And to receive and reciprocate this love is to take the baton and “not let them grind us down”. A luta continua! Rest in peace and power.❤️🙏🏾✨
