We are so thrilled to celebrate that today, April 15, is now officially Kamille Smith-David day!! 🥳👑🌟
Kamille, a student of Carbondale Elementary School #95, was recently crowned the first ever National Little Miss Black America!!
It was a special moment at last night’s council meeting to see this proclamation handed off by the first black Mayor of Carbondale to the first National Little Miss Black America- these are the kinds of legacy moments that inspire generations to come!

The City of Carbondale congratulates Kamille Smith-David on becoming the first National Little Miss Black America
Whereas,
Kamille Smith-David was born on April 15, 2017, in Carbondale, Illinois; and
Whereas,
Kamille, a trailblazing seven-year-old third-grader at Thomas Elementary School, made history during the 58th anniversary celebration of Black excellence, achievement, and beauty by being crowned the first National Little Miss Black America at the Miss Black America pageant in Houston, Delaware; and
Whereas,
the National Little Miss Black America title was created to extend the legacy of the Miss Black America pageant to the youngest generation of future leaders; and
Whereas,
this milestone highlights the pageant's commitment to fostering confidence, cultural pride, and leadership in Black girls at every stage of life; and
Whereas,
Kamille's accomplishment is a personal milestone that demonstrates the potential of young Black girls across the country and brings pride to Carbondale. Her achievement honors her family, reflects positively on our community, and inspires Carbondale's youth to pursue their dreams.
Now, therefore, I, Carolin Harvey, Mayor of the City of Carbondale, Illinois, do hereby proclaim April 15, 2026, as
KAMILLE SMITH-DAVID DAY
