Interdisciplinary Association for Population Health Science - IAPHS Fostering scientific innovation and discovery to improve the health of populations and reduce health disparities.

The mission of IAPHS is to improve the health of populations by advancing and communicating population health science. The IAPHS achieves its mission by:

- Supporting conferences, workshops, and resources that create a shared professional space for scientists from different disciplinary backgrounds, fostering communication and collaboration to strengthen research addressing complex population hea

lth problems involving multiple systems, and supporting the professional development of early-career population health scientists;

- Providing opportunities for scientists to connect with stakeholders, decision-makers and practitioners to encourage knowledge exchange that can improve both research and evidence-based strategies for population health improvement; and

- Increasing the visibility of population health science by communicating advances in scientific knowledge to multiple audiences and promoting the importance of population health research.

Rural health care is fragile—and Medicaid is a major part of what keeps clinics and hospitals open. In the newest episode of the Population Healthy podcast, Michael Shepherd, a health policy researcher at the University of Michigan School of Public Health, breaks down how recent Medicaid changes could ripple through rural communities: access to emergency care, OB-GYN and behavioral health services, and even local jobs and economic stability.

Call for extended abstracts for a special issue of "Social Science & Medicine - Population Health" (SSM-PH) on Reimagining Population Health Science to Build Trust and Influence.

This special issue will bring together a collection of conceptual and empirical papers that will identify the reasons for the current lack of trust and influence in public/population health science; provide evidence on ways to rebuild trust and influence; examine how trust and influence affect population health outcomes and disparities; and offer concrete and policy-relevant solutions based on both historical and contemporary evidence.

We encourage papers focused on a wide range of countries, especially low-and-middle-income countries, in addition to the United States.

All abstract submitters must be IAPHS members.

Deadline: May 15, 2026.

Submit your extended abstract as a PDF here: https://iaphs.org/conference/submissions/iaphs-ssm-ph-special-issue/

Please join us for our upcoming Public Health Conversation, which will be streamed live from Washington D.C.: The Future of Public Health in the United States.

This event is part of our SPH50 programming, in celebration of 50 years of public health research, education, and practice at BUSPH. This year we’re hosting a series of bespoke programs that will ask local, national, and global leaders to share their goals for the future of public health.

For this event, we have invited a select group of national leaders in public health: George Benjamin, Executive Director of APHA - American Public Health Association; Brian Castrucci, President & CEO of de Beaumont Foundation; Laura Magana Valladares, and President & CEO of Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH). Moderated by SPH Dean Adnan Hyder.

Our alums and friends in D.C. are invited to join us for this event in-person!

This PHC will also be available through Zoom. Register to attend either online or in-person here ➡️ http://spr.ly/6180B6Yv8y
