Praying for Baby Avett

Avett is doing Super..first and foremost :) However, my cousin's little girl just had her 3rd open heart surgery and is in need of prayers, and financial assistance if you're in the position to give. Aleece was born with Pulmonary Atresia and just had surgery. They had planned all along to be in Boston for around 2 weeks. Today it's been a week since her surgery, which went great, but b/c of the amount of fluid she has on her lungs she will need to stay in the hospital for a minimum of 7-10 more days, and then in Boston (they live in TX) for another 5-7 days until her follow up appointment. Please, if you are able, consider donating to help offset their expenses. They are staying in a hotel, and hoping they can get in to the Ronald McDonald House or hospital rooming, but right now, everything is full. Every little bit helps...if you can't give, even if you can, please pray for Aleece's fluid to heal up quickly. More to come but we had a family birthday party with Avett today because he turns 2 tomorrow! I can't believe that 2 years ago I started this page as a way to update friends on a very sick baby, and beg for prayers...and here we are today with a spunky, fun loving, toddler! Happy birthday Avett!

Avett was a dog for Halloween..and he TOTALLY got it...I tried to just sit out for a couple of houses with him while the big kids scurried to the door, but he pointed, and fussed until I took him to the door for his candy. At one house, several people were in the cut-de-sac together, with 3 buckets of candy, and Avett kept dipping back in for more candy...and then giving the lady whose bucket it was a high 5!

He's not talking much, but has started speech therapy at the house once a week. I honestly have no idea if his speech delay is from having a rough start, or just being the 4th kid and having everyone know what he wants and give it to him without much effort!

He's full of laughs, has some tantrums, and is happy a lot more than he's not! He's truly a joy! His smile is contagious, and his will is STRONG! He will do great things one day, I'm sure of it!

I just realized I hadn't posted in quite sometime...so here's a quick update...Avett's doing great! He goes to Mothers Day Out twice a week and seems to be warming up to it...what can I say..he's a true mama's boy at heart. It's always a very emotional reunion when I pick him up at the end of his day! He's doing everything on target except for speaking..he has 1 word and it's dada, but he signs "bird, more, milk" and he's working on "airplane"...here are a couple of pictures...he still adores his siblings, and will follow commands like "go get your shoes" or "take Landrie her milk"...and she really only wants her milk if delivered by Avett :) Thanks for being our prayer warriors when we needed it most...

Avett received most of his medical care at Children's National Medical Center....aside from his first 6 hours, he spent all of the 45 days he was in the NICU there...our friends, Brooke and Matt are heading a Grateful Family Team for the Race for Every Child...we met them when Avett and their daughter Remi were both in the NICU together...both Avett and Remi had the same problem..and Brooke and I met in the NICU waiting area...not by chance...there were 50 babies in the NICU..and I met the mom of the ONLY other baby who had the same problem as my son...if you have any extra funds you're looking to donate, Children's National Medical Center is doing great work, and we are forever grateful to them for our sweet Avett. It's all tax deductible too! Please consider donating! We'd be heading up our own team if we hadn't just moved!

just a quick update :) We've moved further south...and have gotten settled and the big boys have even started school :) Avett and Landrie are starting MDO at a local church next week...this will be the first time in 8 years I've had any alone time..so I for one, am super excited! Thanks for all your prayers...Avett's doing great...not talking much yet but gets his point across by pointing, grunting, etc. He climbs, runs after his siblings, and acts like he thinks he's 5 years old! He LOVES dogs (all animals really) and just turned 17 months old...

This was Avett a year ago....timehop in general is a really cool app....unless you have 6 weeks of a really hard time and then are reminded of exactly how hard it was every time you look at timehop! I know....I could just not look. This was he day that Avetts chest fluid came back and he had to have chest tubes out back in....and then didn't respond well to the cocktail of meds he had been given and had some very scary apnea and Brady issues for the next 24 hrs. This to me, was more scary than the 10
Days he was on ECMO bc on ecmo he was being run by the machines....you don't really stop breathing on it....but this day, I thought we were out of the woods only to realize we so were not. They wanted us to reintubate him and Brett and I didn't....we asked for an hour and a wean on one of the pain meds....I very clearly remember struggling because this wasn't the safest decision, and I didn't want to set myself up to be mad at my husband if our gamble didn't work and Avett needed to be intubated in an emergency situation. And of course we prayed, and asked all of you to pray as well. I guess the one good thing about timehop is it reminds me where we were not so long ago, and how far we have come since then, and that God carried us through it.
Happy to have all 4 of my kids home and as chaotic as it is I wouldn't want it any other way!

Right now avetts doing great and had started taking a step or two at a time! As soon as I get a decent short video of it I will post! And we are not currently at children's....the pic was taken there!

My littlest buddy is finally on the mend! He had an ear check today and they said both ears are looking better. He hates his antibiotic....I have to put him in his car seat to give it to him so he can't arch his back and get away from me! Typical Avett...he's a fighter! I made an appt with our Ent just to get him on their radar but am still hoping we can wait until at least fall to do tubes.

I am thrilled to see him acting more like himself....and fever free!
