Trauma Surgery Interest Group at GUSOM We created this page to keep everyone updated on TSIG events and hope everyone will get involved!

The purpose of the Trauma Surgery Interest Group is to provide Georgetown School of Medicine students exposure to the many facets of the trauma surgery subspecialty by facilitating student-faculty interactions, sponsoring workshops and activities which demonstrate critical trauma techniques in both hospital and field settings, presenting opportunities for exposure to the practice of trauma surgery, aiding in knowledge collection regarding trauma surgery residency programs, and hosting talks to stimulate interest in the field of trauma surgery. This group seeks to encourage more students to take a long-term interest in trauma, critical care and acute care surgery. This group also intends to incorporate the viewpoints of multiple specialists, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, emergency medicine physicians, EMTs and other health care workers -- both civilian and military -- who may provide further guidance to students in pursuit of a career in trauma surgery. There will be opportunity for collaboration with the Level 1 Trauma Centers at MedStar Washington Hospital Center and at Children's National Medical Center, allowing for exposure to adult, geriatric, and pediatric trauma practices. Thanks to everyone who came to our TSIG Panel tonight! And a special thanks to our panelists: Dr. Sava, Dr. Johnson, and Dr. Beyene. They were very honest and open, providing amazing insight into the field of trauma surgery and were great at engaging us along the way. We had our laughs - during the anecdote of the trauma surgeons who try to work in the phrase "just the tip" when describing certain procedures - and we had our cries (lucky for us, our photographer was great at capturing JUST the cries!)

We hope everyone had a positive experience and look forward to seeing you all at future events!

Don't forget, we (along with EMIG and the Benjamin Rush Institute) are screening Code Black tomorrow (Nov. 5) at 6pm in GA 2/4! According to the reviews, it'll be action-packed, thought-provoking, awe-inspiring and many, many more hyphenated adjectives! If you haven't already, take a quick look at the trailer below, it's awesome.

And if that's not enough (which it definitely should be) there will be popcorn and soda too!
