In February 2026, RAD-AID Tanzania Program Director, Dr. Arlene Richardson, traveled to three partner hospitals in Tanzania to work with staff on several objectives, including development of an MSK fellowship curriculum, assisting with educational reinforcement and improving equipment oversight and safety protocols.

Hospital sites included Muhimbili National Hospital in Dar es Salaam, Lumumba Regional Hospital in Stone Town, Zanzibar, and Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC) in Moshi.

“I’m grateful to support the growing radiology residency programs at Muhimbili and KCMC, including expanding fellowship development at Muhimbili and the growth of cancer care capacity at KCMC.

In Zanzibar, our partnership focused on strengthening imaging infrastructure and deepening collaboration to support long-term capacity building. I'm inspired by the shared commitment across all sites to advancing education, expanding clinical services, and building sustainable partnerships.”

In January 2026, RAD-AID Medical Physics Program Manager, Patricia Svolos, PHD, DABR, traveled to Georgetown, Guyana to work with hospital staff at several RAD-AID partner institutions on QA and QC testing. The partner hospitals included Diamond Hospital, Enmore Regional Hospital, and Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC).

Dr. Svolos supported hospital staff at GPHC in performing a lead shielding assessment for the CT scanner with the in-house physicist, conducted a physics equipment performance evaluation for the mammogram scanner, and delivered lectures to the residents on radiation safety and MR safety-related topics.

She also met with the CEO, Director, and radiology team at GPHC to discuss MR safety and clinical operations for the MRI scanner planned to be installed this year. This will be the first MRI scanner in a public hospital in Guyana!

RAD-AID thanks our wonderful partners in Guyana for their longstanding collaboration and dedication to increasing access to necessary radiology services in the country.

In January 2026, RAD-AID Informatics Program Leaders Celeste Garcia and Kevin Conway traveled alongside RAD-AID Cabo Verde Program Director, Dr. Susan Weinberg and MedWeb Technical Support Engineer, Dave Cundiff, to Hospital Baptiste Sousa (HBS) in Mindelo, São Vicente, Cabo Verde.

The main focus of the trip was to work with hospital staff on the installation of the MedWeb PACS. RAD-AID thanks MedWeb for their partnership and support of our global health outreach efforts in low-resource regions.

“I recently had the privilege of supporting the implementation of a MedWeb PACS at Hospital Baptista de Sousa in Mindelo, Cabo Verde. Over the course of the project, we successfully installed the server, deployed the viewer across clinical areas, onboarded users, and integrated CR imaging workflows.

This project reinforced the importance of local partnerships, standardized healthcare IT, and building sustainable technical capacity to improve patient care in resource-limited settings.”

Bring Radiology to Those in Need

Half the world has no access to radiology. That means no ultrasound for helping babies and mothers; no mammography for breast cancer screening; no x-ray for trauma victims; no CT for cancer staging and surgical planning; no MRI for brain and spine disease; no angiography for heart disease, and the list goes on and on. Radiology is the technological backbone of advanced health care systems for delivering screening, diagnosis, and treatment to patients, but it is the missing hole in the health care systems of developing countries and low-resource areas. RAD-AID started 10 years ago with a simple mission: increase and improve radiology for medically underserved areas. We have grown to be over 9000 volunteers serving in 53 hospitals and 27 countries, and we hope to continue our mission and growth. We bring radiology equipment, training, and sustainable support to hospitals that need radiology for taking care of their patients. We work shoulder-to-shoulder and hands-on with health workers all over the world to bring radiology and medical images to the patient’s bedside. Each RAD-AID program is uniquely tailored to the needs and resources of a hospital and community through our specialized and trademarked Radiology-Readiness Assessment, which is an in-depth data-collection and analysis step for first understanding what radiology solution can make the best impact for a low-resource medical facility. So, our programs are diverse to create those unique solutions based on a data-driven, heart-filled, and perseverant method, which include a mobile women’s health in India, information technology deployment in Ghana, a new radiology residency in Guyana, inter-institutional training of doctors in Tanzania, a new ultrasound for children in Laos, rural ultrasound in Appalachian Virginia, mobile mammography in mid-Atlantic USA, x-ray radiography teaching in Malawi, and MRI support in Ethiopia, as a few examples. RAD-AID believes in creating a creating a special mix of charitable outreach, teaching, and innovation that not only brings greater global health but also brings the world closer together.
