We have been a place where we see the person first; a healthcare home where patients are treated with dignity, respect and love. Social Media Commenting Policy

Welcome! Whitman-Walker maintains social media channels as a service to our supporters who wish to keep updated on news from WWH and possibly share information with one another. We have some simple reminders and rules for you to ensure that your use of our social media channels is beneficial to you! Please remember that our social media channels are not secure means of communication and are maintained by Communications staff and not patient services or medical providers. Feel free to send feedback or general questions to these accounts; but do not send confidential medical or billing information. Also, don’t disclose any personal information, particularly personal identifiers such as home address, phone number, e-mail or other address here. For your privacy, we are unable to offer comment or recommendations for individual care. To discuss your care, please call 202.745.7000 and ask to speak to the appropriate staff member, or make an appointment with your provider. Although we will not disclose or discuss confidential information, we may respond to or retweet public mentions or comments. Please consider this when choosing to self-identify as a patient or comment on services you've received at WWH. Also, please note that following a user, being followed by a user, or sharing another user’s content does not represent an endorsement by WWH nor does it indicate that that person is a patient, donor, or affiliate of the organization. And ALWAYS discuss information you read online with your provider before making any medical or mental health decisions. Whitman-Walker Health does not endorse, nor is it responsible for, comments posted by our followers. Now, we have a few simple rules to follow. Not following them could get you banned. And we really don’t want to do that. So make sure you follow these rules:

1. Under 16? We recommend that you participate only with the supervision of a parent or guardian.

2. Don’t break the law! That includes any international, federal, state or local laws. You may also not post anything that infringes any patent, trademark, trade secret, copyright or other proprietary rights of any party.

3. Tell the truth. Don’t post things that aren’t true. Don’t impersonate another person or entity or misrepresent your affiliation with a person or entity.

4. Don’t solicit! No unauthorized advertising, promotions, junk mail, spam or any kind of solicitation.

5. Stay on topic. We want to have dialogue with and between our followers, so it’s important to stay on topic when commenting. Also, please include supporting information to back up your comment. Opinions are great; facts to back them up rock!

6. Play nice. No stalking, harassing or invading someone else’s privacy. No threats. No abusive or defamatory language. No vulgarity or obscenity. No hate speech. Nothing that violates any rules on online conduct and acceptable content. And NOTHING that harms minors in any way!

7. No viruses or malware! See #3 above.

8. No collection or storage of personal data about other users. See #3, 5 and 7 above. For WWH employees and volunteers:

1. All of these rules apply to you too! Be sure you know WWH’s Social Media Policy for employees and volunteers.

2. If it’s on the Internet, it lives forever. Don’t post something that will come back to haunt you later!

3. This is a public forum. Do you want to see your post on the front page of the Washington Post? Then think twice before you post it.

4. Make it clear that it’s YOUR view, not WWH’s official view. Your view and WWH’s may not align. That’s fine. Please make it clear that your post is YOUR personal view.

5. Remember that our Communications department is responsible for consumer inquiries or criticism. Please do not respond to these postings. However, if you see something that does require a response, please notify the Communications department. By participating in our social media channels, you are agreeing to this commenting policy. If you violate this policy, we may remove your comment from our page or block you from commenting on future threads. Thank you for your cooperation. To contact Whitman-Walker Health about an issue unrelated to our social media channels, please e-mail info@whitman-walker.org.

Throughout Women’s History Month, we’ve been honored to highlight the voices of the women who lead with purpose and vision across our community at Whitman-Walker.

Today, we are featuring Naseema Shafi, Chief Executive Officer, Whitman-Walker Health. Naseema reminds us that women’s history, like all of our cultural celebrations, is not just something to look back on—it’s something we live, shape, and carry forward every day. From sisterhood to sustained progress, her words speak to both the power of community and the responsibility to keep pushing for equity.

Thank you, Naseema, for your leadership and for moving this work forward with intention, impact, and heart!

About once a quarter, NBC Washington gathers leaders in the community from charities, churches, associations, and nonprofits to participate in their 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝑨𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑩𝒐𝒂𝒓𝒅 (𝑪𝑨𝑩) to give feedback on programming, but also to hear how NBC4 can be helpful to the community.

Perhaps one of the best takeaways from yesterday's meeting is the great new 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞 & 𝐏𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐁𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐥 that NBCWashington has collaborated with Findhelp to create. Located at 𝐧𝐛𝐜𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐨𝐧.𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩.𝐜𝐨𝐦, it is an incredible searchable database by zipcode of all sorts of resources for people in need or in crisis: food, housing, goods, transit, health, financial assistance, care, education, work, and legal.

Please check it out, spread the word, and even get your organization listed in it! - https://nbcwashington.findhelp.com/

We see you, Ward 8—and we stand with you!

Whitman-Walker Health is proud to be a member of the Ward 8th Health Council, a collective grounded in a shared leadership model where community organizations take joint ownership of the health, safety, and well-being of all Ward 8 residents.

Pictured left to right: Dwight Venson, our Community Engagement Manager; Jaren Hill Lockridge, Chair of the Ward 8 Health Council; and Crystal Jackson, Ward 8’s premier Doula Equity Consultant. Just a few of the leaders who are helping to shape what community-driven care looks like in real time.

Together, we are building a future rooted in equity, accountability, and collective action. We will continue to fight for access, advocate for resources, and invest in solutions that honor and uplift our community.

The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences and the Center for Population Health Sciences & Health Equity is launching a 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐍𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 (𝐂𝐇𝐍𝐀)—and we invite you to be a part.

This is the first time a comprehensive CHNA will focus only on 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝟕 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝟖. Instead of starting with challenges alone, this process begins with our strengths, assets, and visions for the future—and connects what community members share to real decisions about programs, services, and investments.
During the week of 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝟐𝟑–𝟐𝟖, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, we invite community members to join a 90-minute vision-setting session centered on one guiding question:

“𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲?”

Participants will receive a $40 gift card, and childcare support is available. No prior healthcare or research experience is needed—your lived experience is expertise.

Last week, our Whitman-Walker Health dental team at Max Robinson Center, led by Dr. Claudiu Buck, was very happy to participate in a great educational event geared toward young men from across the District for 𝐕𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐌𝐄𝐍 𝐀𝐓𝐂.

Though healthcare is the fastest growing industry in the country, men remain underrepresented in the field. Hence, the reason and the opportunity for this training session organized by the .atc and .dc.

Dr. Buck (.dmd), his dental hygienist Jo, and dental assistants Monet, Ive, Ricky and Breia discussed what a career in the dental field could entail, what it takes to be a dental assistant, and how important the work that they do really is. They then instructed the students on how to make dental impressions of their teeth. 🦷

The full afternoon also included instruction from staff from and as scholars were introduced to pathways including:

🩺 Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
🩺 Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)
🩺 General Nursing (Clinical Nursing Assistant)
🩺 Dental Assistant

Students rotated through hands-on stations including Stop the Bleed, EpiPen administration, vitals, handwashing best practices, CPR, donning & doffing PPE, dental impressions, and the Anatomage Table.

And none of this happens without the phenomenal ATC staff and instructional partners who continue to deliver some of the best healthcare training experiences in the city.

📣 Applications for the 2026–2027 cohort at the Advanced Technical Center (Ward 5 & Ward 8) are open until March 17.

For Women’s History Month, we’re continuing our staff spotlight series by honoring the women who shape our work.

Today, we recognize Lisa Amore, Sr. Director of Communications at Whitman-Walker Health, who reflects on the extraordinary women in her family. From her grandmother’s journey to the United States to the remarkable life of her mother, “The Dot,” Lisa’s words carry a powerful reminder that the legacy of women often lives on through the generations they inspire.
