We’re grateful to share a powerful story of transformation.

Recently, our President/CEO Diana Vaughan joined Biz Burgh on WordFM—and John, a current City Mission resident, joined her to share his journey.

Not long ago, John was facing active addiction and the weight of difficult circumstances. After time in jail, he made the decision to come to City Mission and pursue a different path.

Today, his life looks very different. John has committed his life to Christ, was baptized in our chapel, has a job, and has reconnected with his children. Most importantly, he’s moving forward with purpose and hope.

Stories like John’s are why this work matters. Thank you for being part of a community that makes new beginnings possible.

There is encouraging news in the fight against overdose. According to a recent annual report, Naloxone helped reverse nearly 9,500 overdoses in Pennsylvania between January and September 2025, and overdose deaths statewide declined compared with the previous year. In 2024, there were 3,341 overdose deaths in Pennsylvania, down about 29 percent from the year before, including 53 in Washington County.

Breanne Pugh, our Project Coordinator, stated, “It’s kind of amazing to me to see how far Narcan distribution has come.” WDAC has distributed thousands of Narcan kits over the past decade and continues to get this lifesaving medication into the hands of community members, first responders, and families. “We have so many people who have not been personally affected by opioid use disorder who request Narcan just to be able to save a life.”

The work continues, and every kit, every conversation, and every connection can make a difference.
