This past week, I had the pleasure of personally meeting Rebekah Wolff, cancer survivor, licensed professional counselor, life coach (www.angelwingscoaching.com, www.kettlemorainecounseling.com) published author and public speaker. Rebekah stopped in at Small Stones Wellness Center in West Bend, Wisconsin to share her book, “Dear God, Please Make My Mommy Feel Better” which depicts her own experience as a young mom who was diagnosed with cancer and dealing with a young child who was trying to understand it all. Now as an 11+ year cancer survivor, she has been giving back; one being the creation of this lovely book. The book takes a look at a young girl’s story of faith and fear as she discovers her mother has cancer. Rebekah was so kind as to donate a couple copies to Small Stones-West Bend library cart so that parents battling cancer can check out for free and share with their young children. Also available to purchase on Amazon if you wish to have a copy of your own. Thank you so much Rebekah for sharing your story and providing a resource for others. Your positive attitude and kind and generous heart is truly inspirational.

Froedtert West Bend Hospital, Cancer Center was the recipient of these lovely, soft, comforting and practical capes to be worn as another option from the usual radiation hospital gowns during radiation therapy. The capes are for the cancer patients to keep and bring back each time they have radiation treatment to provide comfort and coverage when on the table. This cape project was near and dear to Sue Lisko’s heart (far left) when she was given one while undergoing radiation treatment herself. She is part of the Hartford Women’s Club which is a club dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service. Sue rallied her troops at the club and decided to dedicate their precious time and money to make these amazing capes for our cancer patients. Thank you so very much for putting so much thought and love into these capes! Our cancer center is truly appreciative of your donation. THANK YOU! (Captioned from the left, Sue Lisko, Barbara Pontow -President of the Hartford Women’s Club, Linda Wilke, Kathy Vogelsang).

Small Stones Wellness Center of West Bend is incredibly fortunate and blessed to be the recipients of a band new electric massage table. Anne Schultz, donor of the table, knows the importance of therapeutic massage as her daughter, Kathy Mohar, is one of the massage therapists at Small Stones Wellness Center. Not only does an electric table allow for ease of our patients getting on and off the table safely, it also provides the correct height for the therapist to use proper body mechanics and avoiding injuries. Anne…your kindness and generosity will benefit so many and we couldn’t be more grateful. THANK YOU!!

Angels Among Us….

These beautiful bags filled with supportive goodies appear on our cancer centers door step a couple times a month for several years now. Each of these handmade, one-of-a-kind bags come with such love, comfort and support to so many of our newly diagnosed cancer patients. They are filled with wonderful items such as journals, blankets, crossword puzzles, waters and well-crafted handmade greeting cards made by a special friend. Why would someone take so much time, money and energy in making these gifts of love? Inside each bag is a note explaining why…

“A little over ten years ago, our 34 year old daughter was diagnosed with breast cancer. What a year our whole family went through, especially our daughter and her husband as they tried to keep everything in their lives as “normal” as they could for themselves and their two very young children. Happily, prayerfully and whatever other thankful adjectives you can think of, our daughter is now cancer-free. All of us have adjusted to a ‘new’ normal, taking nothing for granted and enjoying even the tiniest things life offers.
Through all of this, my husband and I want to give something back to others who are going through this challenging ordeal. So…we are pleased you were chosen to receive our “something”.
We pray you are able to enjoy the little things in life. Maybe this bag will help.”
-Roger and Joyce

THANK YOU Roger, Joyce and Marilyn (card maker)! Your generosity and love is beyond appreciated!

Enhancing Life for People Living With Cancer

You may experience changes in the way you look and feel as a result of cancer or its treatment. These changes — hair loss, skin changes and other effects of cancer or treatment — can affect your self-image and the way you cope with your illness.

To help men and women living with cancer, the Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Network has created a very special place — the Small Stones Wellness Center.

The Small Stones Wellness Center, available in five locations, supports the healing process by helping patients enhance their appearance, promote relaxation and boost their self-esteem. Our skilled and compassionate staff members are devoted to helping you look your best with personal, one-on-one service to meet your special needs.
