As winter approaches, horses are at a higher risk for respiratory issues that affect their health and performance.
Horses that transition from pasture board to inside stabling are exposed to significantly higher levels of airborne particles that can lead to Equine Asthma and bacterial or fungal infections of the respiratory system. This is in part due to baled hay and straw bedding which contribute to the presence of dust, endotoxins, mold spores and ammonia. The most common symptoms associated with respiratory issues include chronic coughing, decreased performance, difficulty breathing and abnormal lung sounds.
Additionally, the inhalation of cold air has an adverse affect on your horse's respiratory system. Research has shown that cold weather exercise can cause Equine Asthma and repeated work in cold temperatures can lead to chronic airway inflammation.
When the levels of airborne particles in stabling environments can not be successfully managed, medical treatment and airway maintenance are required. Flexineb allows you to target the lower airways with medications and natural solutions which treat and manage airway diseases. Additionally, nebulization with a Flexineb has fewer side effects than systemic drug treatments and is less expensive than treatment with a metered dose inhaler.
