Thrive would like to welcome its newest Intern! She is available daily minus Tuesdays after 3 pm, Saturdays after 4, and Sunday afternoons. Her fees are $40 per session.

My name is Angelina Shawn, and I am currently a graduate student at Pentecostal Theological Seminary studying Christian counseling. As a mother of two adult children and a high school teacher, I am experienced in working with children. I especially enjoy working with preteens and teenagers, recognizing that this is a challenging phase of life. I take pleasure in providing teens with tools that can help ease some of the struggles they encounter both at school and at home. In my free time, I find fulfillment in crafting, music, and caring for animals.

If this week has felt heavy — you’re not alone.

We live in a broken world, and some weeks remind us of that more than others. But as Christians, we don’t carry the weight alone. Jesus said, “Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)

It’s okay to take a step back. To rest. To grieve. To process. But don’t lose sight of the truth: God is still on the throne. Evil does not win. Lies do not have the final word.

Take time to pray. Open God’s Word. Rest in His promises. And then — stand firm. Speak truth. Love boldly. Lead with conviction.

We are called for such a time as this. Stay grounded. Stay faithful.

Pause today.
Look up.
Let the light remind you that hope still exists.

Deeply saddened by the recent news in the Parker County community.
I’m reminded of how vital it is to check in on our loved ones—especially our children.

My heart is heavy for the families and community members who are grieving today.
Please don’t underestimate the power of a simple conversation.

Here are some signs to watch for:
• Withdrawing from others
• Losing interest in things they used to enjoy
• Falling grades
• Sleeping much more than usual
• Lacking motivation

If you notice these signs, talk to them—𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐣𝐮𝐝𝐠𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭. You’re not alone, and neither are they. If you need extra support:

Finding purpose after becoming Mom

Motherhood changes everything—including your sense of self. The things that used to define you—your job, your goals, your identity—can feel like they’ve been put on pause or erased altogether. And while caring for your child might be the most important thing you’ve ever done, it’s normal to ask: Where do I fit in now?

Finding purpose after becoming a mom isn’t about going back to who you were before. It’s about figuring out who you are now—with all the new pieces that motherhood brings. It might mean redefining success. It might mean pursuing something you never considered before. Or it might mean learning how to make space for yourself without guilt.

There’s no one path—but there is a way forward. And it starts by giving yourself permission to take time for yourself more, and learning more about who you are.
