On E.B. White’s Birthday, a Reminder to Keep It Simple.

Today, we celebrate the legacy of E.B. White, author of Charlotte’s Web and co-author of The Elements of Style. A writer who believed that good writing is good manners: thoughtful, honest, and clear. At Jewish Senior Life of Metropolitan Detroit, White’s timeless advice still guides how we communicate with our residents, staff, and greater community, from newsletters and emails to our website.

His words remind us: Write plainly. Revise relentlessly. And always consider your reader.

Happy birthday, Mr. White, and thank you.

Ever meet someone and feel like you’ve known them forever?
That instant click…it’s rare, it’s beautiful, and in a new chapter of life, it can feel like a lifeline. Whether you’ve just moved, started something new, or are simply seeking connection, this story is for you.
Executive Director of Development Jo Rosen has written about that moment when a stranger becomes a friend, and a place starts to feel like home.

This evening through Tuesday, June 3, we celebrate the holiday of Shavuot.
Read JSL Executive Director Jo Rosen's column "Why We Remember," connecting Shavuot to "encourage us to learn from the past, blend it into our present lives, and find meaning and purpose in our connection to our heritage."

Jewish Senior Life was thrilled to sponsor and host over 40 guests at Meer on Wednesday for a Jewish Family Service Gray Matters Workshop!

The topic, “Food for Thought,” featured an engaging presentation by our very own dietitian, Elizabeth Freyre, RDN, who shared insights on brain-healthy nutrition. She wrapped up the session with a fun, hands-on demonstration of how to make no-bake energy bites - a delicious and nutritious snack!

Interested in trying them at home? Let us know and we’ll be happy to share the recipe!
