We all see the young fitness people on the internet telling us the best way to do something or the latest food to eat or supplement to use. Some think this is what exercise and fitness are about. For some it may be. But for most it's about quality of life.

It's about getting on the floor to play with your children or grandchildren. It's about being able to get out of a chair or off of the floor. Having the leg strength to go upstairs or the upper body strength to open a window.

Being able to live your life the fullest is what exercise and nutrition are really about.

Signs of a Heart Attack include:

Shortness of breath,
Mild pain in the chest, throat, arms or back,
sweating,
weakness or fatigue,
nausea,
lightheaded or dizziness,
not feeling well or at ease.

These are a few. If you know someone with heart disease, or potential heart disease, be aware of these signs.

A friendly reminder. With Spring coming and as the weather improves, we'll be doing more yard work and work outside generally. Every year I see people who hurt their back, knees or elbows. Bending over pulling weeds and working in your yard can be hard on your joints. Just be aware of your body's position and if something aches don't work "through" it, find a way to work around it. Sitting on a low stool, bending with your knees can help a lot. Don't bend over to pick something up, or pull something up, with your knees straight.

As we get older, we have to give our body a reason to keep its strength and muscle. This is why it is so important to strength train, especially as we age. Your body will not keep its strength if it doesn't have a reason. It's too metabolically expensive to keep unused muscle.

After doing this for so long, I forget that the basic's need repeated from time to time.

When comparing calories on similar products, make sure you check the serving size of those calories.

If one is 180 calories per serving with a 2 tbsp. serving and the other is 100 calories per serving with 1 tbsp. serving, then the first one would be lower calories per single tbsp. It would have only 90 calories per tbsp.

Often, I see people worrying about the finer points of nutrition while ignoring the larger picture. Should I take cinnamon, should I take sea moss, should I take Co-Q 10 and so on and so on.... I could go all day on this. However, those same people will smoke, drink alcohol (more than they should), eat out frequently, not drink much water and so on and so on.

My point being is to worry about the larger picture of nutrition first then, if you feel the need, worry about the micro part of your diet.
Track your calories (protein, carbs and fat) and try to make healthier decisions through the day.
