This December, let's shine a light on Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), a specific and recurring form of depression that happens within autumn and winter months. SAD is primarily caused by reduced sunlight and shorter daylight hours, which can affect our serotonin and melatonin. Some treatments include therapy, regular exercise, use of light therapy devices, and increased exposure to sunlight during daylight hours.

This winter, let's encourage a community of support for SAD!

SERVICE UPDATE! There's a new, streamlined way to view key lab testing data in the InContext app with Timeline View. Using this update, Connie users have the option to view their patient’s laboratory testing data in an easy-to-read timeline format, enabling easy identification of data trends over time.

WVHIN’s recent CCBHC example shows how encounter alerts and linked labs/vitals help teams reach repeat patients, reduce repeat ER visits, and improve follow-up for Medicaid members.

Highlights:
- 60% decrease ER admissions per patient
- 40% decrease in overall emergency room use
- 75% follow-up attendance after outreach

Connie offers similar infrastructure in CT through our partnership with CRISP Shared Services, bringing real-time insights into the behavioral health workflow.

One of the easiest and overlooked ways we can protect our health is through hand hygiene, and National Handwashing Awareness week is a good time to revisit what proper handwashing looks like!

When washing your hands, remember to wash for at least 20 seconds (or sing the "Happy Birthday song twice) using soap and water, and wash all your fingers, as well as the back of your hands. While soap and water is best, hand sanitizer can also be an effective backup to reduce the spread of germs.

Let's make hand hygiene a priority and help keep our communities healthy!
