Enough with the no carb diets. For starters, it is extremely unsustainable & once you re-introduce carbs back into your diet you will most likely gain back all the weight you “lost”. You should never take any macronutrient out of your diet completely. I don’t say this to be hurtful, I say this because I care about YOU! Carbs are your FRIEND.
6 quick reasons why you should be eating your carbs:
• Carbs are your main source of energy. If you are not eating carbs, no wonder you are feeling burnt out & exhausted 24/7?! Your body has 0 energy from the foods you are consuming.
• Carbs fuel your brain, kidneys, heart muscles & central nervous system.
• Carbs are essential for serotonin production. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter for mood regulation. Feeling cranky? Having mood swings? Eat your carbs, you’ll feel happier :)
• Carbs affect your cortisol levels. Cortisol is your sleep + stress hormone. Don’t know how to manage stress levels? Eat your carbs.
• Carbs help regulate blood sugar. Without carbs your blood sugar can drop too low which can lead to a number of health issues.
• Fiber is a carb source which helps with digestive health. Want better gut health? Eat your fiber + carbs.
I am not telling you to binge eat on crappy carbs now. What I am telling you is that it is crucial to eat nutrient dense carbs for the sake of your health. You can still reach your goals while eating carbs, I promise you that.
Here are a few examples of nutrient dense carb sources: fruits, beans, rice, quinoa, sweet potatoes, oatmeal, veggies, nuts, yogurt, and soooooooo many more.
Carbs are not the enemy…those who are telling you to cut carbs out of your diet are the enemy.
