Today the medical team with the Health Care District of Palm Beach County’s mobile health clinic “Hero” provided primary care services and offered Johnson and Johnson’s Janssen COVID-19 vaccinations to over 100 homeless community members at St. Ann Place in West Palm Beach. The mobile health clinic regularly visits St. Ann Place to provide health care services and has offered clients COVID-19 testing. This marked the first time clients were offered COVID-19 vaccinations as one of the available medical services. When asked what she thought of her experience receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, client Tamika Manning said, “Awesome.”

“To me it’s a great opportunity through our ongoing partnership with the Health Care District to bring in people 18 years and older and help the homeless community battle COVID-19,” said John Pescosolido, St. Ann Place Executive Director.

“We’re very excited to be back at St. Ann Place providing medical care and Johnson and Johnson’s Janssen COVID-19 vaccine,” said Belma Andrić, MD, MPH, Chief Medical Officer for the Health Care District. “It’s the ideal vaccine brand for this transient population because it’s one and done.”

According to the American Heart Association, many people have delayed or avoided going to hospitals for heart attacks and strokes because of COVID-19. And while in lockdown, more people have engaged in unhealthy lifestyle behaviors, such as eating poorly, drinking more alcohol and limiting physical activity, that can contribute to heart disease.
