Collin's Smile

Collin's Smile A page to document the progress of Collin's cleft lip and palate repair. If you wish to help fund this process it would be greatly appreciated.

I have made this page for many reasons. The main approach, though, is that I must humble myself. For those who know me well you know that I am not good at asking for help. If I do it's because I REALLY need it. I need your help first of all in the way of support through prayer and encouragement. I know our situation could be much more serious, but it's hard to go through this. I truly appreciate the encouragement I have received so far. I made this page to list specific requests along the way and post updates on my little man. The other aspect is financial. I am unable to work due to Collin's needs with feeding, taping, etc. We live with my parents but this is putting a strain on them. We are insured (for now) and would like to avoid medicaid as his surgeon is in Idaho. The main need is to help take the pressure off my parents with gas money for doctors appointments, future hotel expenses, etc. I hate to sound like a charity case but, well, I am. If you have any questions or concerns PLEASE let me know. Thank you for looking at Collin's page! Collin's Smile

We have our next visit on Tuesday. Collin is VERY excited about it. It’s a routine visit with his cleft team. We usually try to have these in the summer so he doesn’t miss school but it was pushed back because of Covid. The next step with be an orthodontic spacer to widen his upper jaw and that should be pretty soon.

We received the call from the ENTs office and the test results from yesterday indicate the need for a replacement tube. That’s much easier than a hearing aid. It will be surgery #7 but a very easy one so I’m relieved ❤️

I’ve been debating on if I should post before or after the test but I’m pretty nervous and I know he is too so I’m going to post before. Collin has not passed his hearing screening in his left ear the last two times and the tube has been clear on examination so he has a comprehensive hearing examination this afternoon. We know if he doesn’t “pass” that it means a hearing aid and that’s not the end of the world but if you could keep us in your thoughts and prayers I’d appreciate it.

Collin had three fillings, a cleaning, and X-rays under general anesthesia today. In his usual form he handled it like a champ and everyone fell in love with him. He has two loose teeth on the bottom but his X-rays didn’t show much in the way of adult teeth. He woke up really well but was very bummed out when he found out he couldn’t eat at Applebee’s this evening.

Collin has two cavities, one where his cleft is and he has two teeth fused together and he has a cavity where they have fused. Both those places are very difficult to clean. He will have general anesthesia for his fillings and get X-rays while he is under. This will be his first dental X-rays of his adult teeth so we will get and idea of what the future has in store for us. He’s scheduled for September 20th so I’ll update you then how everything goes😊

This year’s trip to Shriner’s is done! He is such a good traveler and he was a delight the whole day. Everything looks good, we’re looking at getting the spacer to widen his upper jaw in a year or so and then the bone graft when he’s between 8 and 10. I connected with a couple moms from this area, one has a 15 year old and one has a two year old. Collin charmed everyone he came into contact with ❤️

Collin’s yearly outpatient appointment was just scheduled for June 11th. We fly out of Bozeman at 6:30 am, his appointment in Portland is at 1:15 then we fly back into Bozeman at 11:30 pm.
