Meet Joanna Crowell MS, LPC, LADC, NCC, AADC
I am passionate about helping people make positive changes. Healing is a process of looking toward the future with the wisdom from our past. My role is to encourage and inspire a process that helps you to reassemble your life in a way that fosters greater meaning and purpose. I am here to support you in your healing from trauma, substance use, and difficult life events. As a trauma specialist, I am a certified EMDR therapist who also holds a certification as a HeartMath practitioner. I believe in integrating holistic health into your healing process. In my free time, you are likely to find me hiking in the woods, traveling to national parks, spending time with family and friends, or practicing meditation. I am a strength-based and person-centered therapist. I use different modalities within my practice such as CBT, DBT, and am also trained in EMDR. During treatment, I will teach you how to challenge and reframe negative thoughts to build a stronger and more joyful version of yourself. We will work together to find the best tools and modalities to help you meet goals and enhance your life. I’m empathetic, calm, and passionate about helping clients realize their greatest potential. Outside of learning about the human mind, I am a martial arts enthusiast, and have practiced karate for over a decade. I also enjoy strength training, bird watching, and spending time with my husband and our two rescue cats, Travis, and Odin.

A new year brings a fresh opportunity to care for your mind and make meaningful changes that support your emotional well-being. If you’ve been feeling stuck in certain thought patterns or reacting to stress in ways that leave you drained, this may be the perfect time to explore how Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) can help.
CBT focuses on understanding the connection between your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. It helps you recognize unhelpful or self-critical thinking and gently replace those thoughts with ones that are more balanced and empowering. Over time, these small mental shifts lead to big changes. You start to respond to challenges with clarity, manage anxiety more effectively, and feel more in control of your emotions.

Protect your peace. Take breaks when emotions run high. Step outside for fresh air. Create boundaries that keep you grounded. Choose presence over perfection.

Healing happens in real time, through your body, your breath, and your lived experience.

At Power to Heal, EMDR and mindfulness come together to help you gently process the past while staying grounded in the present. You don’t have to navigate trauma on your own. With the right support, each session becomes a step toward greater clarity, confidence, and emotional ease.

Therapy here is a collaborative process, not something that is done to you. Together, we move at a pace that feels safe, check in often, and adjust the work based on what your mind and body are telling us that day. The relationship itself becomes part of the healing, built on trust, respect, and the sense that you have someone in your corner who really gets it.

When You Are Ready to Break Old Patterns

If you feel stuck but also feel a spark, however small, that wants life to look different… that spark is enough. You do not have to have it all figured out to begin. You just have to be willing to wonder, “What if things could be another way?”

In therapy, we gently explore the patterns that keep repeating in your relationships, your choices, your self-talk, and your body. Together we get curious about where those patterns began, how they once protected you, and why they no longer fit the life you want now. Awareness becomes the first doorway to change.

From there, CBT helps you notice the thoughts and behaviors that keep pulling you back into the same loop. You begin to name the old stories, challenge them, and practice new ways of responding that are more aligned with your values and your current reality. Small shifts over time start to create new habits and new possibilities.

EMDR supports this work by helping your nervous system release the emotional weight of the past. Instead of just understanding your patterns in your mind, you start to feel different in your body: less activated, less frozen, more able to pause and choose rather than react on autopilot. The grip of old experiences loosens, making room for a new way of being.

As you do this work, you may notice that you set clearer boundaries, speak up more honestly, or choose relationships and environments that support your growth. You begin to trust yourself in a deeper way and move through the world with more ease, self-respect, and self-compassion.
