••
Juniper Resin
Juniperus spp.

Foraging Notes:
Collected from the alpine forest floors of Colorado, where large golden globules of resin had fallen from the trees. The scent is sharp, sweet, and grounding —aromatic and refreshing!

Part Used:
Resin (exudate from bark/wood)

Constituents & Mechanisms of Action:
    •    Volatile oils & terpenes (α-pinene, sabinene, limonene, myrcene): Antimicrobial; disrupt bacterial and fungal cell membranes.
    •    Phenolic compounds & flavonoids: Anti-inflammatory; reduce redness, swelling, and irritation.
    •    Resinous compounds: Astringent and protective; form a barrier over wounds or cracks.
    •    Rubefacient action: Stimulates local circulation, promoting blood flow and tissue repair.
    •    Antioxidant compounds: Support healing and reduce oxidative stress in skin cells.

Traditional Uses:
    •    Burned as incense to purify the air, ward off illness, and support respiratory health.
    •    Applied as a poultice or salve for cuts, burns, bites, and skin infections.
    •    Infused into oils for joint pain, sore muscles, and rheumatism.
    •    Used to protect against contagion and “bad air” in folk medicine.

Medicinal Actions:
    •    Antimicrobial
    •    Anti-inflammatory
    •    Astringent & protective
    •    Wound-healing
    •    Rubefacient (circulatory stimulant)

Energetic & Spiritual Qualities:
Juniper is traditionally seen as a guardian plant—purifying, protective, and boundary-setting. The resin carries this energy in concentrated form. It is grounding, clarifying, and often used in rituals to clear negativity, strengthen resilience, and invite clarity of mind and spirit.

Applications:
Topical use in salves and oils for wound sealing, cracked or dry skin, winter hand care, and minor cuts or burns. Burned as incense or resin chips for cleansing spaces and supporting lung health.

I’m planning on making this into a hand salve for winter use!!!

🦁✨ 1-Card Oracle Pull ✨🦁
Today’s card: Surrender to Your Full Power

Your life is asking you to rise.
No more dimming your light, no more playing it small. The world needs your medicine, your voice, your truth. 🌿💫

This card is a reminder that stepping into your full power is about authenticity. When you stand rooted in who you truly are, life expands to meet you.

At Brahmaloka Healing Arts and through Brahmaloka Tarot (my online tarot channel), I hold space for this very thing: helping you reclaim your energy, your intuition, and your strength so you can walk boldly on your path. 🌞

💫 Today, ask yourself: Where am I holding back — and what would it look like to step forward fully?

Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris)

Fresh from the alpine hills of Southern Colorado, this wild-harvested mugwort has been such a powerful plant ally to work with!!! 🤗

Mechanism of Action:
Mugwort is a classic bitter-aromatic herb. Its volatile oils and sesquiterpene lactones wake up bitter receptors on the tongue, stimulating the vagus nerve → increasing saliva, stomach acid, bile, and digestive enzymes. It helps with sluggish digestion, gas, bloating, and poor appetite.

It’s also a carminative, easing spasms and cramping in the gut. As a nervine, its oils gently calm the nervous system—making it a wonderful ally for tension, anxiety, and restlessness.

Traditionally, Mugwort is also an emmenagogue, encouraging pelvic circulation and helping bring on delayed or stagnant me**es. Its oils even show antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, useful for both internal and topical applications. (My favorite way to use is infused oils for topical applications!)

Mugwort has been used across cultures as a plant of intuition and protection. It is often associated with enhancing dream recall, supporting meditation, and helping us connect with deeper layers of the subconscious. Some traditions honor it as a “threshold plant,” one that helps bridge ordinary awareness with inner wisdom.

Whether brewed as a bitter tea, tucked into a dream pillow, applied to the skin as an infused oil, grown in the garden for medicinal use, or burned for protection, Mugwort is one of the best plant allies out there, IMO!

Happy Fall Equinox!
Today the light and dark stand in perfect balance—an invitation for us to pause, breathe, and realign. Just like the trees releasing their leaves, we too are invited to let go of what no longer serves and make space for what’s ready to grow.

May your equinox be filled with gratitude, grounding, and a little magic in the crisp autumn air. 🍁💫
