The Peggy Lillis Foundation’s Second Annual Scientific Conference brought clinicians, patients, researchers and scientists together to explore C. difficile, a debilitating gut infection that affects some 500,000 Americans annually. OpenBiome Foundation’s Chief Medical Advisor Majdi Osman, MD, MPH, presented on 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥-𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐄𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐅𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐢𝐨𝐭𝐚 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. The presentation underscored the power of a centralized stool bank in overcoming barriers to access and in establishing the monitoring of safety and effectiveness of FMT in C. difficile infection across thousands of providers and patients.

The Peggy Lillis Foundation ’s 16th Annual Gala brought out the stars for C diff patients. Dr. Stacy Kahn, attending Physician at Boston Children’s Hospital (third from left) was honored with a Leadership Award for her many firsts. She directed the nation’s first pediatric f***l microbiota transplant (or FMT) program, created the first national pediatric FMT registry, and performed the very first FMT for a child. She is joined by (left to right) Liam Lillis, Co-Founder and President of the Peggy Lillis Foundation, OpenBiome Foundation’s CEO Julie Barrett O’Brien and Christian John Lillis, Co-Founder and CEO of the Peggy Lillis Foundation. Dr. Kahn has worked tirelessly with OpenBiome and the Peggy Lillis Foundation to ensure children and medically complex patients retain access to life-changing f***l transplants.

Food systems are teeming with complex microbial networks, carried from soil and water to crops, animals, and humans. Can we better track and steer these networks to enhance ecosystem health and food security?

Join CEO Julie O’Brien, OpenBiomeFoundation, at this webinar to hear an exploration of new thinking on enhancing health and food security with Prof Paul Cotter from Teagasc Ballyhaise College , VistaMilk SFI Research Centre , and SeqBiome , Dr Tanja Kostic from AIT Austrian Institute of Technology and Microbiome Support Association, Dr Paula Fernández Gómez from Universidad de León Mx , and Karel Callens from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) .

We’re heading to Digestive Disease Week (DDW) this weekend—and we’re bringing our boldest commitment with us: No C. diff patient left behind.

At OpenBiome, being gutsy means taking action where it matters most: supporting clinicians through the complexities of FMT and regulatory pathways; training hospitals to make in-house FMT accessible and sustainable; and powering a clinical study for patients with severe and fulminant C. diff.

If you're a clinician, researcher, or partner attending —and you’re committed to transforming C. diff care—we want to talk.

DM me or comment below if you’d like to connect in San Diego.

Let’s be gutsy, together.
