Out of 1,400 caregivers who received a Tier 1 L.O.V.E. Award, only 36 were selected for the distinguished Tier 2 honor — and we’re incredibly proud to celebrate Kia Vang (Left) and Heather Speaks (Right) as two of them. 💙

Kia’s recognition reflects not just one extraordinary moment of patient advocacy, but her consistent commitment to Intermountain Health’s values and mission of being partners in health. When a patient considered postponing a lung cancer screening due to cost concerns, Kia took immediate action — coordinating with authorization partners, confirming coverage, and personally following up with the patient. Because of her persistence, the screening happened in time and led to the early detection of two cancers, giving that patient a far better chance at a successful outcome.

Heather Speak’s work stretches across volunteer programs, valet services, the Gift Shop and other Front Range hospitals. For years, she has been the architect behind major hospital and community events, building bridges, visibility and meaningful partnerships. Her leadership style is rooted in empathy and purpose, and it shows in the programs she champions. Read her full story on our February 9th post below.

Kia Vang and Heather Speaks’ Tier 2 L.O.V.E. Awards are a powerful reminder of the impact caregivers can have when they do the right thing, act with purpose, and always put patients first. We’re so proud to have you both at Lutheran Hospital.

At Lutheran Hospital, Intermountain Health’s mission of Helping People Live the Healthiest Lives Possible goes beyond our walls. We know health is shaped by more than medical care—it’s also about opportunity, stability, and support.

That’s why Lutheran has proudly partnered with CrossPurpose for the past five years, supporting career pathways for the working poor through training, mentorship, and long-term support. CrossPurpose helps people build sustainable careers in high-demand fields—including healthcare—creating real paths to economic stability and stronger futures for families.

Last year, Lutheran invested $75,000 in this work, and to date, Intermountain Health has hired more than 20 CrossPurpose graduates—resilient, dedicated individuals who now strengthen our teams and our community.

We’re proud to support work that doesn’t just change jobs—it helps rewrite futures. 💙

Last week was Cardiac Rehabilitation Week, and we’re proud to celebrate the incredible teams at Lutheran Hospital who help patients recover stronger and reduce their risk of future heart problems. ❤️

From our EKG and ECHO technologists to our dedicated Cardiac Rehab team, these caregivers play a vital role in guiding patients through supervised exercise, education, and lifestyle counseling after a cardiac event or procedure. Cardiac rehab isn’t just about recovery—it’s about building confidence, improving heart health, and helping patients get back to living full, active lives.

Every year, hundreds of thousands of people experience heart attacks or cardiac procedures. Programs like cardiac rehab can be life-changing—and life-saving. Thank you to our teams for the expertise, encouragement, and compassion you bring to every step of the journey.

Lutheran Hospital was proud to partner with Arvada High School to host a Teddy Bear Clinic on February 5, welcoming more than 150 students, parents, and teachers from the community. 🧸💙

Kids guided their teddy bears through a playful “doctor visit” while our caregivers introduced basic health concepts, helped ease fears about hospital visits, and created a fun, hands-on learning experience. The clinic was part of Arvada High School's Loving On Our Community event and basketball game—and a great example of how we’re building healthier, more confident futures together.

Lutheran Hospital has launched a new Direct-to-OR program to help get patients with the most severe penetrating injuries—such as stabbings, shootings, or impalements—into surgery faster, when every second counts. This week, teams completed a mock exercise to ensure they’re ready to deliver seamless, lifesaving care from the moment a patient arrives.

This approach allows care teams to take patients straight from the ambulance bay or helipad to the operating room, bypassing the emergency department to reduce time to surgery, minimize complications, and improve outcomes.

“By reducing the steps between arrival and surgery, we’re not only saving time—we’re saving lives,” said Christopher Zaw-Mon, MD, trauma surgeon at Lutheran Hospital.

The Direct-to-OR program reflects our ongoing commitment to clinical excellence and patient-centered care, made possible through close collaboration between EMS, surgical teams, and hospital leadership.
