Lutheran Hospital is proud to recognize Julie Miller, Lab Technical Specialist, with an Intermountain L.O.V.E. Award for her extraordinary dedication, leadership, and innovation.

Julie played a critical role in launching Intermountain Health’s first prehospital whole blood program—a groundbreaking initiative that will help deliver life-saving blood products to patients in the field when every second counts. This complex, high-demand transfusion model comes with unique challenges, and Julie met them head-on.

She also spent months networking across the state, traveling out of state to learn best practices, writing brand new procedures, creating new forms, updating tracking systems, validating equipment with Arvada EMS, and training her team—all while navigating the process without formal standards in place.

Her tireless work now sets the foundation for expanding this program to other communities in need. Julie’s commitment truly reflects what it means to Live Our Values Everyday. 💙

Lutheran Hospital is proud to launch a new Student Shadow Program—partnering with local high schools to give students a behind-the-scenes look at the many careers that make healthcare possible.

Students from Arvada and Arvada West high schools explore a wide range of departments—from nursing, imaging, lab, and respiratory care to culinary services, facilities, pharmacy, security, transport, and more—gaining real-world exposure to both clinical and non-clinical roles.

“Our goal is to connect students early with healthcare professionals and help cultivate a future workforce passionate about serving our community,” said Heather Speaks, senior manager of Integrated Services at Lutheran.

From hands-on learning and department rotations to activities like “Germy Jeopardy” and Q&A sessions with caregivers, the program is already making an impact and will expand to more Jefferson County schools this year.

We’re proud to help students discover what’s possible in healthcare, right here at Lutheran. 💙

Shorter days, colder weather, and busy schedules can take a toll on mental health. For some, it’s more than the “winter blues.” Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is a form of depression that can affect mood, energy, sleep, and daily life.

Signs can look different for everyone—feeling low most of the day, losing interest in things you enjoy, changes in sleep or appetite, or struggling to get through everyday tasks. And these feelings can affect not just you, but the people around you.

The good news: SAD is treatable. Support may include light therapy, counseling, healthy routines, and, when needed, medication. Small steps—like getting outside during daylight, prioritizing sleep, and setting realistic expectations—can also help.

💙 If your mood is interfering with daily life, don’t brush it off. Support is available, and asking for help is a sign of strength.

Preparedness is an act of care.
In August, Lutheran Hospital participated in an active threat exercise to strengthen emergency readiness and ensure the safety of patients, caregivers, and visitors. It allowed us to test our capabilities in the hospital, as well as our coordination with our emergency response partners. Ongoing training helps our teams stay ready, confident, and focused on what matters most—people.
